"Mad Max 4" to Become a 3-D Anime Film

"Mad Max 4" to Become a 3-D Anime FilmSubmit Comment
"Mad Max" director George Miller first planned to make a fourth "Max" film with Mel Gibson back in 2003, but financing collapsed in the wake of the Iraq War. Miller is now using the old script to try to bring "Mad Max 4" to the big screen once again, only this time, the new movie won't be live-action or involve Gibson.

"We'll probably go a different route," Miller told MTV News, adding that the idea is to create an R-rated, 3-D anime film for theatrical release. The director has already had success with his animated "Happy Feet" and feels comfortable with the format.

"I see myself as someone who is very curious about storytelling and all its various media," Miller said. "I've always loved anime, in particular the Japanese sensibility. It's something I've always wanted to do."

Miller isn't looking simply to mimic Japanese-style animation but rather to adapt it for Western audiences. "The anime is an opportunity for me to shift a little bit about what anime is doing because anime is ripe for an adjustment or sea change," he explained. "It's coming in games and I believe it's the same in anime. There's going to be a hybrid anime where it shifts more towards Western sensibilities."

In addition, Miller will also be working with "God of War II" designer Corey Barlog on a "Mad Max" video game. But don't expect the game or the movie to be released any time soon. "I've got a couple of years left," said Miller. "We're in the early stages writing and designing. A really good game you need two and half years. And for good anime you need two years."

Yeah. Personally, I'd still rather see Gibson in it. I mean, they might as well just create other characters, set it in a different future, and call it something else.

It wont work. Anime isn't a theater expirience. I mean I like some anime, Death Note was awesome. But I wouldn't pay the money and drag my girlfriend to something that I for sure know she will not be into, even though she does it to me.

MrSammich, did you see Akira on the big screen? Or Ghost in the Shell? It can work, but those two are pretty exceptional.

Mad Max is already an anime, it has been for over twenty years! Has no one seen the Fist of the North Star? Kenshiro = Max Rockatansky.

An R rated mad max 4 anime in 3d on the big screen. Done in a western style of story telling. Sounds pretty good. Could be worse, they could be making a live action Akira and cowboy bebop film with keanu reeves as spike ha ha ha.... wait a minute.
