Anton Yelchin is "The Green Lantern"?

Anton Yelchin is "The Green Lantern"?Submit Comment
Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) has already signed on to direct the upcoming "The Green Lantern" superhero film. In addition, Warner Bros has now scheduled it to appear in theaters on December 17th, 2010. Seems like the only piece missing is an actor to play the title character.

LatinoReview is reporting that the studio is looking to cast a young, up-and-coming actor, but is having trouble getting the right person. Both Ryan Gosling (The Notebook) and Emile Hirsch (Speed Racer) have passed on the role and Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation) is busy with "Clash of Titans."

So now, Warners is making an offer to Anton Yelchin, who is playing Kyle Reese in "Terminator Salvation" and Chekov in "Star Trek."

This seems like odd choice to me since Yelchin is only 5'9 tall and has never had the lead role in a big budget film. Does anyone think that Yelchin is a good choice?

I thought they were casting Hal Jordan as Green Lantern, not the Teen Titans. He's way too young.

Okay I'm not the biggest Green Lantern fan but isn't GL black? like in the animated series?

There have been many Green Lanterns in sector 2814. John Stewart (the black dude) is the least known of them all. I guess they wanted some cultural variety for the cartoon. Even if Alan Scott was the first, it should be Hal and ONLY Hal in the movie. And this kid is way too young.

This kid in not a bad actor but, he's way too short and thin. There's plenty of other choices......why don't they just get Zack Braff from crying out loud!!! But seriously, you could go with someone like Eric Bana, Guy Pearce, or Jim Caviezel......there's plenty of better options.

he looks way too young and fragile, he's a nice actor though, but I'll have a hard time buyig him as green Lantern, too bad they couldn't Gosling

Ok honestly I think that GL should be black, and well there was rumors to make Common to play that character, if you dont know who is he, well he act i both Terminator Salvation and Smokin Aces, and he had a badass roles in those, so I think he will be a better choice...
Schwasted writes:

Wasn't Seth Rogen gonna play him?
alexgi writes:

Schwasted, you're thinking of The Green Hornet.

Right, well The Green Lantern is better and I think they should find somebody better than Yelchin. Maybe we should wait and see after his next 2 movies are released, I've only seen him in Alpha Dog and Charlie Bartlett.

Horrible. What is studios' preoccupation with getting scrawny actors that are too young to play SUPER HEROES. f*ck's sake. Ticket sales aren't going to plummet simply because an actor that fits the role is cast instead of some dweeb just out of puberty or some teen heartthrob it-boy. f*cking hell.

timothy olyphant can do it or the guy from wanted, he's short but has the looks and the acting too...common they can find someone better for the part =/

the guy from Charlie Bartlett? no no no! I liked him in that movie but he comes off as to much of a whimp to play Green Lantern

and yeah... timothy olyphant or jim caviezel would be a good call, sam worthington I could maybe see getting it done but not so sure. He'd be hella lot better then this guy!
