Mel Gibson Regrets Not Saving Heath Ledger

Mel Gibson Regrets Not Saving Heath LedgerSubmit Comment
Mel Gibson spoke to Jimmy Kimmel on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" about how he was able to help Britney Spears, adding that he regrets not reaching out to Heath Ledger in a similar fashion.

"She's a nice kid," Gibson said about Spears. "She was just going through a rough patch. You see kids like that in the industry. I just thought, 'I wonder if anyone is reaching out to her,' so I just called her and she's doing great now."

And he wishes he could've done the same with Ledger. "I shoulda called him years before," said Gibson. "I really didn't know the ins and outs of what was up with him, but I don't believe it was just an accident."

Ledger won for Best Supporting Actor last night. His family accepted the award on behalf of his young daughter Matilda.

I like Mel. He's a kickass director, too.

he is a good director but it seems like he's acting like he can play god.

Playing god? If you feel like you can help or save someone's why wouldnt you?

"I really didn't know the ins and outs of what was up with him, but I don't believe it was just an accident." because, jjjjjoey, this is an ignorant statement. It WAS an accident. Everyone knows this. It's not out of the realm of possibility that someone DIDN'T commit suicide. People who were close to Heath know this, yet Mel, who probably hadn't spoken to him since The Patriot, claims it wasn't an accident.

even if he was 'saved' doesn't mean he stays that way...and you can't blame heath for what he went through...he got married and everything seemed perfect...but then he got divorced, and then things just kinda spiraled downward...you can't expect or force someone to jump out of their 'bad phase' or 'rough patch'...they have to do it on their own...if britney spears had any better sense...she'd stop dating paparazzi people and focus on her kids...cuz she's missing out on their childhood...granted i didn't like mine either...but GET OVER IT!!...there's better things in this world than dwelling on bad memories...plus she got to experience and live a dream that most of us hardly get a chance to

It slightly difficult to understand, but if you listen closely Mel says "but i DO believe that it was just an accident". please watch the interview on youtube here. He says it at about 6:40 into the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0OMbtewboE

thomas deadison, did you know the guy or did you hear it was an accident over the news like everyone else? Nonetheless, if it was suicide or not, it doesnt matter now. No one will ever no what went on in that guys head. But if that nazi Mel (lol) feels he couldve helped him, great

by playing god i meant that he is trying too hard to be there for everyone and he really can't. there really is no sense dwelling on this.
