"Nottingham" Gets New Title and Story

"Nottingham" Gets New Title and StorySubmit Comment
MTV News spoke to "Nottingham" director Ridley Scott, who revealed that the new film will now be called "Robin Hood" and that production will begin in 2 months.

Scott added that he has abandoned the idea of Russell Crowe playing both Robin Hood and Sheriff of Nottingham. "That was an idea so far back, way back when at the time I had this proposed to me, and I read it and thought, 'I don't really know what it does for it, but it's alright'," he said. "It is better to simply have the evolution of a character called Robin Hood, who will come out of a point in the Crusades which is the end."

As a result, the Sheriff will be "less important; the Sheriff of Nottingham is always a kind of an amusing character in most of the movies, who represents the hierarchy in the story at that point," Scott explained. "The hierarchy and the wealthy always ruled over the under class, and fundamentally that doesn't change, because Robin Hood is actually the person who finally - in terms of the overall classical idea of the film - will help the poor, probably taking from the rich."

So, rather than a Robin vs Sheriff showdown, Scott has instead made an entire country the villain. "It is from France. It is the French," he insisted. "The villain is much bigger in that sense; much more important, and much more dangerous."

He added that Russell is currently hard at work on his bow and arrow skills. "He's been working on his bow and arrow for about 4 months," Scott revealed. "He sends me tapes of him hitting targets at about 45 meters. He's pretty good!"

Well maybe all that Bow and Arrow practice will keep him away from the Krispe Kreames. "I'll save you Maid Marion! (Gasp...) Just let me catch my breath!"

So now Ridley Scott has changed the title of his Robin Hood movie to...Robin Hood. And on top of that, he's decided to scrap the original premise that made his upcoming Robin Hood film unique in favor of a premise of dozens of other films about the character. How original.

so he's still playing Robin Hood but not the Sheriff? whatever... still dont like the idea of Russell Crowe as Robin Hood. They need a younger skinnier dude, key word younger. Mid 20s or so but hey atleast Ridley seems to have a hold on it.

Crowe would be a better sheriff than robin hood. But at least he's not playing both

Maybe they should update this to a gangster tale... "Fat f*ck in the Hood", starring Russell Crowe as a stupid lardass who robs from movies goers to give to lazy producers that made yet another rehash of a story told a thousand times before.

They have totally lost what made this a novel concept to begin with. I've just lost interest.

I kinda like this idea better...solely for the reason that Crowe won't be playing two parts.
