The trailer for the upcoming "The Descent" sequel has been released, with the story picking up immediately after the events depicted in the original. Click on the link below to check it out.

Plot: Sarah (Shauna Macdonald), emerges alone from a cave system following an expedition with her five friends in the Appalachian mountains. Distraught, injured and covered in the blood of her missing companions, Sarah is incoherent and half-wild with fear. Skeptical about her account of events and convinced Sarah's psychosis hides far darker secrets, Sheriff Vaines forces her back into the caves to help locate the rest of the group. Trapped by falling rocks, the rescue party are driven deep into the caverns, and as one by one the fate of the missing girls is revealed, Sarah is forced to confront her deepest fears.

The new film is directed by Jon Harris, who is making his helming debut. Lionsgate is distributing, but has not set a release date yet.

Okay, I did like the first one, I had no idea they were making a sequil until like three weeks ago. I was excited. Now I am let down, but at least I always have the first one.

I really liked the first one, saw it as a download so I watched the British version where all the characters die at the end. This one looks not so great, and it's a sequel only to the American version, AFAICT.

We should know by now that pretty much all "american" movies leaves room for a sequel.. if they fail at that they stick to the prequel backup plan ;)

Finally, they give us a trailer.. I remember the first movie was scary as hell because evrything built up at once in the middle 2 end.. its rare that a horror movie is good nowadays so idk.. hopefully this sequel is an exception

This looks like direct-to-DVD material. The first one was great, this one...not so much. Maybe.

Nice reuse of the ALIENS premise. I hope they use a power-loader at the end.

I don't think they intentionally reused Alien/Aliens. There was only one possible survivor from the American edit, the woman, and the only way to really have a sequel is have her return to confront her demons. So not so much of stealing anything from Aliens as it is following the same situation with the sequel as Cameron did with Aliens. Even more likely is that the editors of the American version cut the first film deliberately to leave room for a sequel, mimicking the first Alien film. So I'd say they stole more from Alien and less from Aliens. It's really really an old idea. How many horror sequels from any number of franchises reused a previous survivor to carry the story over so that the main character could confront a few demons? Carpenters Halloween 1 and 2, not to mention H2O? In the end, I wonder more from who and where James Cameron stole the idea.

Well ALIENS was actually an unofficial remake of Forbidden Planet, which is bizarre because that's Cameron's next project after Avatar. But I just assumed Descent 2 would be the same old "3 girls and 3 guys go camping/spelunking in the same place and get hacked to bits" type movie.

Yeah, he reused the script for Aliens, or so I remember. Cameron is a great director, but he's not very original IMO. He 'borrowed' all the ideas for Terminator, the Abyss was at least partly based on other films and ideas, Aliens was as you say a reworked script for a Forbidden Planet remake, True Lies wasn't his at all, Terminator 2 was thematically similar to the first and Titanic was melodramatic love story set on a popular historic liner that met with disaster.

How do you see Aliens as a remake of Forbidden Planet??
