Lesbian Batwoman Replaces Batman

Posted: February 12th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Lesbian Batwoman Replaces BatmanSubmit Comment
Two months after his untimely death, the creators of Gotham City's crime-fighting superhero, Bruce Wayne, have finally unveiled his politically-correct replacement: a red-haired, lesbian socialite called Batwoman.

The publisher of Detective Comics, the iconic title which for 60 years has revolved around the recently-deceased Wayne, revealed this week that future editions of the comic book will star his female counterpart, whose real name is Kathy Kane.

Described as "a lesbian socialite by night and a crime-fighter by later in the night", Batwoman will be the subject of at least 12 issues. It will be the most high-profile appearance by a gay superhero in any book published by the legendary DC Comics.

The last episode of Detective Comics ended with Batman's millionaire alter-ego Bruce Wayne being ejected from a speeding aircraft without his famous cape and face-mask.

He is now presumed dead and writer Greg Rucka said future editions will revolve around a selection of potential heirs, including Batwoman, Catwoman and Bruce Wayne's purported son, Damien, fighting to succeed him.

Sounds like we got a plot for "The Dark Knight" sequel. (sarcasm)

Yeah I'm sure its not even worth looking into, what with all the same writers and a total change of pace for the story.

"Revealed"? Batwoman was revealed to be Kathy Kane during the "52" DCU arc about two years ago. Batwoman being a lesbian is no news. And just wait til Bats comes back. They did the EXACT same thing with Superman almost 20 years ago, with heirs fighting for dominance and everything, and Supes came back. No worries, Batwoman is not gonna be top dog (bitch?) dor long.

It's not about her. Battle for the Cowl include a lot of potential Batmen, including Richard Grayson, Harvey Dent and Thomas Elliot. Batman isn't dead, either, he is... wait for it... trapped in prehistory. This site should just stick to what it f*cking knows and leave the comic book reporting to news-a-rama or some sh*t. Seriously.

What is sad is that I'll bet DC has been planning this for a year or two, and they were SO SURE that fans would love it. Good one.

Blank x2...very good point....that's why when i make beats and stuff i show it off so that if people do like it...i know i'm making good stuff...maybe if movie industries revealed to people their plotlines before even starting production...they wouldn't have to worry about losing millions...cuz obviously the audience is what gives the movie its attention and money

This article is wrong. Stop believing this crap. WP should stay out of the comics scene. They even call them episodes. This is all wrong.

Maybe before some of you bash the latest Bat storylines you should actually read them, and to whomeva said 'this is why i don't read comics anymore' you're kiddin yourself mate, comics atm sh*t all over the older stuff, you ppl who bitch about comics gone seem to only remember the 'great' storlines from the past, not the crap, of which there was plenty! Sure there is still crap today, and don't get me wrong i love stories from the good ol days, but in this era of comic stoytelling, the good far outway the bad.

oh man...next thing you know they'll make male versions of female heroes....so we'll start seeing things like iron woman or invisible man or mrs fantastic or ice woman or damn that's scary lol

Sinestro - has it correct. You others should stop over-reacting and read the actual facts. But that's kind of hard seeing as WP obviously does little to no research. This article has to be among the most inaccurate in the sites history.
minkowski writes:

Umm, what's wrong with this article exactly? According to Wikipedia, Batwoman is set to take over Batman's lead in the Detective Comics. According to ICV2.com "Batwoman, DC Comics’ highest profile lesbian character, will take over Detective Comics with issue #854 in a story arc written by Greg Rucka (Queen and Country, Whiteout, Action Comics) and illustrated by J. H. Williams III (Promethea, Desolation Jones). The new story line featuring Batwoman, who was introduced in the eleventh issue of DC’s 52, is timed to coincide with Batman’s “death-induced” absence from his flagship Detective Comics series. Detective Comics #854, the first issue in the Batwoman story arc, ships in April. After much discussion concerning a solo mini-series for the character, who is controversial solely because of her sexual orientation, DC has apparently decided to proceed cautiously and gauge reaction to the character’s appearance in Detective Comics. " So what has WP reported incorrectly?

I THINK THESE FACTS MUST BE WRONG. WHO THE HELL WANTS BATMAN TO BE REPLACED BY AN ISSUE RIDDEN LESBIAN CHICK? YOU CANT EVEN CALL IT BATMAN ISSUE THEN BECAUSE IT WILL JUST BE A BATMAN CHICK ISSUE- MALES MOSTLY READ THESE COMICS- SO THEN DC WILL BE LOSING HUGE REVENUE. I AM A CHICK AN A HUGE BATMAN MAN MAN FAN - f*ck THE LESBIAN CHICK IDEA - SUXS. IF ITS TRUE
minkowski writes:

AFAICT, it is true. It's on wikipedia with footnotes. http://io9.com/5148820/while-batmans-away-batwoman-takes-over-at-last and on the BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7883348.stm.

Hey, posters, stop beating the f*ck out of WP. They got their press *DIRECTLY* from the BBC. Call WP whatever, but you can't f*ck with the BBC. All you people calling WP crap and saying the news is lies need to get over your disallusion and cognitive dissonance and offer an apology.
minkowski writes:

One more thing: "I THINK THESE FACTS MUST BE WRONG" If facts are wrong, then they are not really 'facts'. And STOP TYPING IN CAPS! get a new f*cking keyboard.
synthetic1985 writes:

FK PCORECT sh*t is right...DC will lose huge revenue for making a move like this...but so will a lot of movie companies for not 'entertaining' us the way they should....but at least the good ones are still there

Wow, talk about talking out your ass! Only good thing about having read this dumb-ass article and its sexist and homophobic (and I'm sure if Batwoman were black I'd be able to throw in racist as well) comments is that it makes me realize hardly a damn one of you even knows what's going on in DC comics right now. So most of you won't have any impact at all when this happens.
synthetic1985 writes:
on February 13th, 2009 at 5:09:39 PM

i don't care what goes on in dc comics...if they want to make a batwoman...she should have her own story, not take over batman's...as WV-Films already put in perfect perspective, bob kane would probably not be happy to hear that these mediocre writers are ruining his work...it's a disgrace to his memory...it should be up to him or his heirs(family and friends)...so just ask yourself this...if you created a character that got really popular, would you feel happy knowing that these 'fan writers' are ruining your work?...i wouldn't
Post_Man_87 writes:
on February 13th, 2009 at 10:00:59 PM

shinwillow - I agree completely. AND MINKOWSKI WP does have it wrong because - First - They claim Batwoman is replacing Batman which is incorrect. If anything she's going to appear in Detective Comics as a character for at least 12 issues. That is hardly replacing. That's a temp job at best. So there's WP first mistake - the article heading. Second - Batman is not "now presumed dead", nor was he ever. He is missing and clues have been spread throughout multiple DC books that tell you he is still alive and well. Hell, even Dan DiDio over at DC just announced at the NY Comicon that Bruce Wayne is not dead. So there Minkowski - that is how WP is wrong. Period!!! Oh, and synthetic1985 - I think that alot of "fan writers" have done a great job over the years - continuing the legacy of an absolute fantastic character. Have there been bad book? Poor writing? Sure. But that happens over a 60+ year career of a character. Poorly written Batman books were happening when Mr. Bob Kane was still alive and they are still happening today. But that doesn't mean great books aren't being released too. Ah, Dark Knight Returns, Long Halloween, Hush, Arkham Asylum, Year One, Killing Joke....would you like me to go on? Are you telling me you don't like the current Batman movies too, because those are "fan made" as well, you goof. Your quote of "i don't care what goes on in dc comics" is as obvious as your lack of proper information. If you don't care, you don't know. And if you don't know, don't comment.
