NY Times unveiled a photo of a shirtless Robert Downey Jr on the set of "Sherlock Holmes," showing how muscular/toned the actor became for the role. Downey was in-shape for "Iron Man," but has clearly taken it a step further to introduce Sherlock as a much tougher character than before.

Plot: In a dynamic new portrayal of Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous characters, "Sherlock Holmes" sends Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson on their latest challenge. Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country. Based on Lionel Wigram's yet-to-be-published comic.

The new movie is directed by Guy Ritchie (Snatch, RocknRolla) and is scheduled to hit theaters on November 20th, 2009.

Typical emaciated actor that Hollywood passes off as "muscular" or "in great shape." If you saw him in person you'd think he was a twig I'm sure. HIT THE WEIGHTS, HOLLYWOOD! The only actors I can think of who look actually physically impressive on camera are Mickey Rourke and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

or Brad Pitt in Fight Club, Edward Norton in American History X, Christian Bale in American Psycho

not to mention that recent pic of Stallone (on HGH) preparing for "The Expendables"

Mickey Rourke and Hugh Jackman are the most physically imposing people you've seen in movies? Are you kidding me? Really? For Real? What are they, like 50?

Mickey Rourke and Hugh Jackman were the people I could think of offhand who did a real mass-building program for their roles in movies (and don't look like they just did pushups, cardio, and biceps curls like some frat boys). I could cite guys like Stallone or Schwarzenegger, but they were into bodybuilding before most actors were and didn't "get in shape" for their movies, they were already like that. Brad Pitt starved himself for Fight Club (he ate an apple a day and smokes cigarettes and drank coffee, weighing in at about 150 lbs...SOOO physically imposing!), Ed Norton got big pecs for AmHistX, Christian Bale got really lean and lifted weights for American Psycho. None of them were really that impressive if you've ever trained in your life. Bale in Batman Begins was pretty big at 6', 200 lbs. Most of these guys have "invisible lat syndrome" because all they care about are mirror muscles in Hollywood (abs, bis, and pecs). Rarely do you see a guy with big lats or a well-developed back. You NEVER see someone with big legs. What happens is that these guys look threatening with their shirts off, but with clothes on they look like regular guys. Sorry, but a 5'9" 180 lb. actor with a huge head, ripped abs, and defined pecs is not imposing to me. The only reason they look so muscular is that they're airbrushed or oiled and displayed in high resolution on a 30 foot high screen. Robert Downey, Jr. still looks like a skinny punk for Sherlock Holmes.

If that picture of Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock is muscular to you, I suggest you get off the computer and hit the gym.

I'm with DCJayhawk57 on this one. He's definitely not that muscular at all. Lean does not equate to muscular. Also, Osiris3657, are you f*cking kidding me? Brad Pitt in Fight Club wasn't remotely muscular. He had very little fat on him and has good bone structure, but the dude was emaciated. At least cite Brad Pitt from Troy instead.
