Freddy Krueger to Have New Origins in "Nightmare" Reboot

Freddy Krueger to Have New Origins in Nightmare RebootSubmit Comment
CHUD had a chance to speak to producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, who spoke briefly about their plans for a "Nightmare on Elm Street" reboot.

Form revealed that the iconic look of Freddy Krueger would mostly stay the same, meaning that fans will still see the character wear a familiar jumper and bladed glove.

Fuller added that they are still looking for a direct and they have a type in mind. "[We're looking for a] visual director who can blow people away." The reason why a visual director is needed, is to get the dream sequences right. "Seamless transitions are the key, where the audience truly has no idea if it's a dream or not until it's too late you realize you've been duped for the last 30, 40, 90 seconds and the person's been dreaming the whole time."

While the look may stay the same, the producers are considering changing the Krueger's back-story, with the original Freddy's gruesome origins revolving around him victimizing the children of Elm Street, which lead the neighborhood's parents to gang up and burn him alive.

Said Fuller: "The concept of the original 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' wouldn't work. The concept of the movie is the kids discovering what happened, and the kids paying the price for their parent's sins. What we're struggling with is how we have his crimes in a way where the kids can't just type in 'Freddy Krueger' [into Google] and come up with his arrest record."

The film is set to begin shooting in Chicago this spring.

Didn't we, the human race, get enough of these filsm with the original and the first fifty or so sequels? You'd think people would understand, or at least arrive at the dim conclusion, that Krueger's Nightmare's were done to death, pun intended.
