Nicolas Cage Signs On for "Ghost Rider 2"Posted: January 29th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Nicolas Cage has a Ghost Rider tattoo on his body, which is why it came as no surprise that he pursued the superhero role in 2007's "Ghost Rider" film. It went on to receive less than favorable reviews from critics and fans, but ended up doubling its $110 million budget in worldwide ticket sales.
Now, Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that Columbia Pictures is getting to work on a sequel, currently looking for writers. The site added that Cage is already signed on to return.
Since "Ghost Rider" appeared in theaters, Cage has been talking about a sequel. He recently revealed that both villains and locations have already been figured out. "It looks like it will take place in Europe and the character will work with the [Catholic] Church," he said. "It'll be a completely new experience."
Unfortunately, neither Eva Mendes or director Mark Steven Johnson share his enthusiasm for another installment. Both would like to move on to other projects, but both have also said that hey would consider returning if Cage did.

No, Nicolas Cage did that to in equal measures. Before 2004, he happened to be a shitty actor who managed to pick good movies. Then starting with "National Treasure," he became a shitty actor who signs on to moronic projects like this.

I agree with half of your statement, however National Treasure was not a moronic project. Actually quite interesting...National Treasure 2 took it a little overboard though.
As for a Ghost Rider sequel...i can't think of a worse idea for Cage. The first one was very sub-par and a quarter of its profit probably came from those people who simply wanted to see Eva Mendes and the rest came from a cinema society's gluttony for super hero films.

Eva Mendes can't act. Quit putting her in movies.
The only thing Ghost Rider had going for it were Sam Elliot and Donal Logue. They didn't have great characters and the movie wasn't faithful, but at least they didn't suck like everyone else in the movie.

Cage didn't ruin Ghost Rider, a shitty script, bad editing and poor direction ruined GR. Cage and Mendes didn't help.

As long as he doesn't make another movie as craptastic as Wicker Man, I'm not going to complain about Cage's projects.

He needs to STOP doing shitty films, Nicholas Cage is a great actor - or used to be. Latley these past 6 to 8 films have sucked. He needs to go back to doing good films like Matchstick Men & City of Angels & Con Air. I mean the National Treasure films are decent enough and that may have been the only grace he's given us in the last 4-6 years. Ghost Rider was shit, and its pretty hilarious how neither Eva Mendes or Mark Steven Johnson dont wanna come back.
