Billy Bob Thornton was Almost "Iron Man"

Billy Bob Thornton was Almost "Iron Man"Submit Comment
Billy Bob Thornton spoke to MTV News, revealing that at one point he was approached to play the role of Tony Stark in last year's "Iron Man." For whatever reason, Thornton was replaced with Robert Downey Jr and the rest is history.

"They talked to me about 'Iron Man' for just a minute just for a minute," said Thornton, explaining why he was considered. "Iron Man wasn't a superhero type, really. [When he was] inside the suit he was."

Having watched "Iron Man," Thornton admits that Downey did a fantastic job as Stark/Iron Man, but he feel that he could have been pretty decent himself. "I could've done it," said Thornton.

This isn't the first time that Thornton was offered a role in a superhero film. He was previously set to play the Green Goblin in the first "Spider-Man" movie.

Do you think Thornton would have been a good Tony Stark/Iron Man?

Billy Bob, just shut up and keep playing drunk mean dudes. You would have been a horrible Iron Man.

lol I can't see him doing that with his voice and drunkenness lol.

they should cast him as a villian who comes out of retirement for revenge on sumthin haha...and make the fight scenes believable for when old people fight...cuz they don't fight like 20 year olds lol

He's awesome. I think he would of been a great Iron Man.

I would have still seen Iron Man if he was Stark, would be interesting! Just as interesting as seeing Kurt Russell or Christopher Walken play Han Solo, not being sarcastic, Kurt and Walken auditioned for the role!

No Way as Iron Man! No effing way! Green Goblin... maybe

After seeing how phenominal of a job that Downey Jr. did, it's hard to imagine that billy bob thornton would be a good choice. He's just too old at this point and couldn't have pulled off the humor that downey jr. brought to the table.

tomp03...i agree with you on some levels there...but now that i've had some time to think this over...i think billy bob should've played the villian in iron man...anybody agree with me on that?

Would have been a completely different movie all the other actors would have been different as well.
CornLord writes:

He can play any villain he wants, but him as Tony Stark would have really turned me away from Iron Man (which, incidentally, was one of my favorite movies of 08).

Nope that would've been awful. And we all know it. However...and you can choose to not believe me if you want...but at my local comic shop there is a guy who stops by there often, and he's a colorist/inker dude for Marvel and other comic companies from time to time. Well, he was telling me (f*ck this must be 5 years ago at least) that George Clooney was up for the role of Stark/Iron Man but turned it down after he'd read the Demon in a Bottle story arc. Once he found that out he didn't want to be associated w/ character that had alcohol issues. Now that is funny and kind of ironic. I don't know about you but I'd rather have Clooney instead of Billy Bob any day.

Might've worked, he's a good actor, but I'm not sure Iron Man's mask is supposed to have buck teeth.
minkowski writes:

Oh, and he's a tad too old for an origin film. Had they made this movie in 1990, maybe.

That would have been horrible. Plus WP ghost writer, your asking the obvious question, AGAIN, is even more lame.
