"Tom and Jerry" Head to the Big Screen

"Tom and Jerry" Head to the Big ScreenSubmit Comment
Warner Bros is planning to turn "Tom and Jerry" to life as CG characters to run around in live-action settings. The adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera property will be an origin story that reveals how Tom and Jerry first met and formed their rivalry before getting lost in Chicago and reluctantly working together during an arduous journey home.

Eric Gravning is penning the script. He also wrote "B-Minor," which has Ron Howard attached to helm at Universal; "Mr. Burnout," which is set up at Participant Prods.; as well as "Class Act" at Walden Media, with Halle Berry aboard to star.

Warners owns the rights to Hanna-Barbera's slate of popular animated properties and has several of them in development for bigscreen adaptation. Those include Robert Rodriguez's version of "The Jetsons" and producer Donald De Line's "Yogi Bear."

"Tom and Jerry" originated as a series of 114 animated shorts, produced by MGM's toon studio between 1940 and 1960, and won seven Academy Awards. New toons were produced after that, and Warner Bros released "Tom and Jerry: The Movie" in 1992 as a feature-length toon.

that's just stupid...'tom and jerry head to the big screen'...'warner bros released tom and jerry: the movie in 1992'...why don't they just call it tom and jerry 2 and keep it cartoon animated...cg will ruin everything it stood for...and it'll only impress kids cuz they don't know any better

I hope they have that old southern maid from the original show, it was awesome when she kicked the crap out of Tom. But htey redubbed her to be less offensive to the modern African American audience, which I think is funny because I work with a lady form Alabama and she is just like the maid from the old show, and she loes the old Tom and Jerry.

Could be cute. "and it'll only impress kids cuz they don't know any better". Yeah, the same could easily be said for the original cartoons.

f*ck i remember the cartoon movie...just a wee lad...i never was big into them....more of a ren and stimpy guy hahaha, make that into a cg movie lol kidding

ren and stimpy haha...that show was pure genius...they used classical music to describe so many situations...that's why i like spongebob a bit...cuz they do that in the earlier seasons when spongebob looked and sounded more laid back instead of the newer episodes where he's overdone as a character...plus the drawings look quite different now

Hopefully Tom wins for once. Jerry is mean! Robert Rodriguez's version of "The Jetsons" ...now THAT should have an article about it.

I hope it's not the LSD-tinged Tom and Jerry from the 60's. Those were terrible.
