Terry Gilliam Rewriting "Don Quixote"

Terry Gilliam Rewriting "Don Quixote"Submit Comment
Director Terry Gilliam (12 Monkeys) has been known as the unluckiest man in Hollywood, having major set problems on most of his projects. Just recently, the loss of Heath Ledger caused his "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" was put on hold, until Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell stepped in to take over for Ledger.

Now, Gilliam is trying to resurrect "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, which fell apart back in 2000 due to major flash floods and injuries to key cast-members. According to Gilliam, he and writing partner Tony Grisoni (Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas) just got the rights to the original script from the insurers.

"Tony and I have started rewriting 'Don Quixote' just this last week," Gilliam told Empire magazine. "[We] finally got the script back. I re-read the greatest script ever written and realize we gotta get rewriting! I really wanna knock that one out in the next month or so."

He was vague on details, saying only that he had "some very different ideas" for the movie, but he has not lost any of his enthusiasm for the lance-wielding Spaniard. "[I'm] starting to think I was lucky, because maybe the film will be better seven years later. It will have matured a bit longer."

Shooting on "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" is likely to begin later this year. While Johnny Depp starred in the failed version of Gilliam's film, it would be interesting to see if he would considering returning.

I'm hoping one of his upcoming films turns out to be one of my favorites.

Isn't it 'The MAN Who Killed Don Quixote"? Dumbass WP writers.

meanmonkey is a d*ck. I don't visit this site for proper grammar or spelling or sparkling repartee with fellow users, but it's a great site for the kind of news I like. If you're just gonna bitch, monkey, just go to Aintitcool. Anyway, glad to see Gilliam is getting more serious about this project. Loved the book, and the doc about his previous attempt.

"Isn't it 'The MAN Who Killed Don Quixote"? Dumbass WP writers."--- says the guy who registered an account, took the time to fact check and actually posted an insulting comment about the author[or owner?] of a website that they most certainly visit often.

It is confirmed that Johnny Depp says he will return. As for Don Quixote, Terry has expressed the thought of maybe his good pal Michael Palin might play the role.
