Third "Twilight" Movie Attracting Big Directors

Third "Twilight" Movie Attracting Big DirectorsSubmit Comment
The $37 million "Twilight" movie has now earned over $300 million in worldwide ticket sales. Summit Entertainment knew that their film would be a success, which is my they greenlit a sequel before the first one hit theaters.

Well, now the studio is pretty confident that the sequel called "New Moon" will be successful as well and has already promised to release a new installment each year for four years.

For "New Moon," they dumped the "Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke and replaced her with Chris Weitz. With so much hype around the franchise, other famous directors are already lining up for the third installment called "Eclipse."

Variety is reporting that both Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage) and James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma) have contacted Summit to discuss their participation. Both are amazing choices, but I'm confident that no matter how talented a director is, he/she would not be able to put together a good vampire movie with a tiny budget and in only a few months.

Would you consider watching "Eclipse" if Bayona or Mangold signed on?

Who the f*ck cares, with the exception of lithe untanned goth girls and forty year-old housewives that stare at cute young guys with a rivulet of spittle on their heavy chins.

They should just double the budget now for the sequels. Even though I don't ever plan on seeing these movies, they should still make them the highest quality possible. I mean if I knew I was going to make 300 million automatically, then I wouldnt mind dishing out a bit more so everyone might speak well about it. Plus I think a solid movie always sells better on DVD than a let down.

"Plus I think a solid movie always sells better on DVD than a let down." On the other hand, letdowns often sell far better on DVD. It's all about maximizing the margin. Twilight has a built in audience. Asking production companies to improve on the source material is a litle like expecting Hustler to offer better literature, or asking Bay to give audiences a good character study.

"with a tiny budget and in only a few months" I assume you are referring to Twilight (the first movie). I have a feeling the sequels will get bigger budgets.
