More Info on "The Thing" PrequelSubmit Comment
Bloody-Disgusting previously brought us the plot synopsis for the upcoming "The Thing" prequel and now have found out who the main character might be and who could potentially be directing this new sci-fi horror project.

According to the site, Matthijs van Heijningen Jr is in talks to direct "The Thing" prequel for Universal Pictures. Van Heijningen is also currently attached to Zack Snyder's upcoming zombie film "Army of the Dead."

The direction that van Heijningen wants to go in is to make RJ Macready's brother the lead character in the new movie. Macready was played by Kurt Russell in John Carpenter's 1982 film.

Plot synopsis: "In the screenplay by Ronald D. Moore, the prequel takes place from the Norwegian camps point of view. An American scientific expedition to the frozen wastes of the Antarctic is interrupted by a group of seemingly mad Norwegians pursuing and shooting a dog.

The helicopter pursuing the dog crashes leaving no explanation for the chase.

During the night, the dog mutates and attacks other dogs in the cage and members of the team that investigate. The team soon realize that an alien life-form with the ability to take over bodies is on the loose and they don't know who may already have been taken over.

I know we've been over this before, but it literally sounds like the same exact movie; that makes absolutely no sense, someone got the details mixed up.

That sounds more like a remake than a prequel

This is a mistake. They are only going to enjoy mediocre success. While I enjoy the idea of remakes and such, I am against the idea of the sequel/prequel twenty years later. Tht Thing was the definition of an eighties horror movie, that then blossemed into a cult classic, one that most of the younger folks I talk with (20-25 year olds) tend to know nothing about and wont become excited enough to watch when it releases.

I think an exploration of the 'after' is a better idea. Send in a military expedition team. No one of any age will appreciate a prequel, and a remake just can't meet, much less exceed, the original's cult classic status. This film is just another horror genre meatgrinder film with a thin patina of sci-fi as justification for gratuitous gore, I predict, while vainly and with vanity attempting to capitalize on the first film's postmortem success.

Why would Macready's brother be the main character?

Macready's brother?? - in the Norwegian camp that he himself went to??? And failed to mention anything about the fact that his AMERICAN brother might be dead?? Movie sucks before they even start filming -
