Samuel L. Jackson is No Longer Nick Fury?

Samuel L. Jackson is No Longer Nick Fury?Submit Comment
LA Times spoke to Samuel L Jackson, who revealed that negotiations to bring him back as Nick Fury in "Iron Man 2," "The First Avenger: Captain America" and "The Avengers" have broken down. Despite his well-received cameo in "Iron Man," it now appears that "somebody else will be Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won't be in it," said Jackson.

He continued: "I saw ['Iron Man' and 'Iron Man 2' director] Jon Favreau at the Scream Awards and we had a conversation. He said, 'I hope things are working out for you because we're writing stuff for you.' Then all of a sudden last week I talked to my agents and manager and things aren't really working that well."

It seems that negotiations broke down due to the size of the paycheck that Jackson was requesting. "There seems to be an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world so [they're saying to me]: 'We're not making that deal.'," he revealed.

And this isn't the first time that Marvel refused to pay an actor their desired salaries. Just recently, the studio replaced Terrence Howard with Don Cheadle in "Iron Man 2."

So, if Jackson won't wear the famous eye patch, who will? "Maybe nobody will wear it," said Jackson. "Maybe they'll decide Nick Fury won't be part of it."

Do you think Jackson is important enough to keep in the Marvel movies?

Why would Samuel Jackson risk his wallet, which I am sure is empty, to fulfill the dreams of everyone who grew up reading Marvel Comics? He should get paid tons vs. accepting a part in a movie that will boost his career. PUNKASS!!!!!!

I'm sure Hasselhoff would love another shot.

I hate Sam Jackson at this point. He's too much of a gimmick, I can't take him seriously. I think Daniel Craig would make an AWESOME Nick Fury, if he can control his accent. If not, maybe someone like Mickey Rourke, since he can do about anything and he's the right age.

this is bullsh*t! they better work something out for him and make him Nick Fury!

Given the fact that the Nick Fury used in Iron Man (the Ultimate Nick Fury) was based on Jackson, I would say he is too important to let go. Specially, since Marvel films want to set some kind of continuity. Hard to keep things in continuity when you are re-casting left and right. Unless, you know, they think all black people just look alike. ;) I'm kiddin', I'm kiddin'.

@ UraharaShop, Mickey Rourke couldn't be Nick Fury as he is in talks to play a villian in IM2. Link - http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=11544

Nick Fury appeared where in IM? In a small scene after the credits? So, yeah, they had BETTER pay jackson big bucks just to reprise such a huge and essential film role. lol.

@whoever - Oh yeah I totally forgot about that. Oh well, would still like to see him in the role.

This sucks! I thought Samuel L. Jackson was going to be great as Nick Fury!
Johnny Neat writes:

Wow, Marvel can't be as sadly cheap as FOX, can they? How much could he possibly be asking to be in basically all of their projects that they can't afford? They draw the guy into the Ultimate Avengers and their movies are apparently based more on the Ultimate take of the Marvel Universe now so what's the deal? I understand Terrence being blocked as he isn't that established look wise to his character but this is lame cheap like not wanting to use Norton for any other Hulk related appearances. Stupid.
johnthemon writes:

I think they should have treid negotiating harder. He wants x amount, they offer y amount, he offers z amount they offer a different amount and they settle somewhere inbetween. But no...I guess not.

I think Jackson should care more about the project than his paycheck. Like many actors he needs to get his priorities straight
