McG Wants Will Smith as Captain Nemo

McG Wants Will Smith as Captain NemoSubmit Comment
Disney recently announced that director McG (Terminator Salvation) has been hired to bring the "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo" family film to the big screen. The studio is currently fast-tracking the project.

McG's version is an origin story of Nemo as he creates his warship, the Nautilus. The characters come from the Jules Verne novel.

LatinoReview caught up with McG, who revealed some of his ideas for the project and the actor he would like to see cast as Nemo. "The character Nemo in this film is more about obsession, he is obsessed and people tend to forget that when you become so obsessed you end up being the villain," he said.

He continued: "I'm trying to get Will Smith to do it, been trying to get a hold of him. I've been wanting to work with him for a long time already. That guy's great."

The 1954 original "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" was the first live-action film made by Walt Disney, who famously bet his studio on a movie best remembered for the giant squid scene. It became the second-highest grossing film that year and won three Oscars. The film has also been the basis for various rides at the Disney theme park over the years.

Hmmm... Nemo is Middle Eastern. Id rather see someone unknown from the Middle East for Nemo. But, than again, I don't want to see a 'family film' of Nemo. So, then again, maybe he is a good choice.

He is too young. Putting makeup on won't work.

The idea still of this being a "family film" is terrible, its not meant to be a "family film" it could be so much more than that.

Wait a second, are you saying that a book that was ALREADY made as a family film - a successful family film - won't work as a family film?....hmm...

not that I am saying that this is a good idea or anything

"Wait a second, are you saying that a book that was ALREADY made as a family film - a successful family film - won't work as a family film?....hmm..." Exactly what I was thinking. I never knew Verne wrote r-rated books, or even Pg-13.

Naveen Andrews for Nemo.....

How about Oded Fehr from the Mummy movies as Nemo? He's intense enough, just give him a haircut.

Will could be good, but this should not be a family film. It should be dark and serious.

How is McG all of sudden tied to do all of these movies? WTF!?
