Johnny Depp's name has been thrown around in just about every casting announcement (including this one). Depp is in the upcoming "Public Enemies," "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" and has been selected for "The Lone Ranger," "Alice in Wonderland" and a new "Pirates of the Caribbean" film.

In addition, there are still talks of "Shantaram," the animated "Rango" and for Depp to return to Terry Gilliam's "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote." Oh yeah, and he is rumored for "Sin City 3" and "The Dark Knight" sequel. That's a busy man. But according to a casting announcement, Depp's next project will be "The Rum Diary," which would see him reprise his "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" role.

Here is the casting announcement via TheBadAndUgly:

THE RUM DIARY (One Role) Feature Film
Writer/Director: Bruce Robinson Based on the novel by Hunter S. Thompson
Start Date: March 2009

[PAUL KEMP] - Johnny Depp

SEEKING: [CHENAULT] A beautiful, 25 year old, translucent vision from Connecticut, with a killer smile and a wry, enigmatic personality, she wears barely-there sarongs, sunbathes nude, and oozes sexuality in everything she does. She enchants and mesmerizes Kemp from the moment they meet: while both escaping a tedious, high-end party. Chenault is dating and possibly engaged to Sanderson, but clearly feels an attraction to Kemp. She's a daredevil who loves to dance and drive fast. She gets into big trouble with a lust-crazed, violent crowd during Carnival in St. Thomas. LEAD. This role contains nudity.

STORY LINE: 1960: Divorced alcoholic and struggling novelist PAUL KEMP decides to kick around San Juan until his ship comes in, working as a journalist for a daily newspaper that's on its last legs, drinking gallons of rum and experimenting with LSD. With his new friend BOB SALA by his side, he becomes entangled in a corrupt hotel development scheme with a slick PR consultant named SANDERSON, and falls in love with Sanderson's unattainable girlfriend, CHENAULT.

Apparently the casting assistant is partial to Keira Knightley and Scarlett Johannson as Chenault.

Considering that there will be nudity, any ideas who would be perfect for the Chenault role?

Scarlett Johannson would be perfect and reportedly she's been wanting riskier roles and to do nudity since Michael Bay's "The Island." Scarlett Jo would be my choice.

Johnny Depp is 46 years old. Scarlett is 24 years old. I know that Scarlett is attractive, but I think these days 40 year olds should bang other forty year olds. Enter : Selma Hayek, she may not fit the role, but if we are speaking of nudity here why not ? ( I spit on your Worst Preview send off question )

Wow this has been in the wings and I couldn't wait for Depp to bring his Thompson back on to the screen, even if Del Toro's character never appears here, but this horrible Knightley and or Johannson possibility gives heart burn. They're are horrible. Ok so Johannson was good in Lost in Translation, but how hard was that role really?

i'm reading this book now. its set in the late 50's when hunter s thompson was around 20 years younger than he was in fear and loathing. so an actress in her twenties would work. good thing johnny looks young!

i just checked, and it was written in 1960, 11 years before fear and loathing...

Fear and Loathing is one of the best films ever made! Johnny was was the perfect Thompson and I've been waiting forever for this to be picked up and out of development hell. As for the women, either Kiera or Scarlett would be fine they are both talented actresses who are incredibly beautiful. As for which of them would do the spoken of nudity is hard to say right now. I think it all depends on how graphic it is, how much they will get paid and how well they like the script. I'm damn excited for this!
