"Scream 4" Update

Posted: January 2nd, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"Scream 4" UpdateSubmit Comment
HorrorMovies has received some news about the upcoming fourth "Scream" movie, which could end up being a sequel or a reboot of the franchise.

If it is a reboot, the new "Scream" film should have a new cast, but Jamie Kennedy recently revealed to iFMagazine that he will reprise his role as Randy Meeks even though his character was killed off in the second film.

He also mentioned that the rest of the cast would be a mixture of new characters with "old faces that you wouldn't believe" and will involve director Wes Craven in some way.

Tentative script writer Michael T. Kennedy has previously stated that most of the old characters, including Sidney Prescott, have been written into the script one last time. That makes the fourth installment seem more like a sequel.

At this point, The Weinstein Company is looking over the script and trying to decide if they will go with it. Craven might be interested in returning to helm and has reportedly even sat down with Neve Campbell to talk to her about doing the new movie.

More information should start being released, since "Scream 4" is set to begin production early this year.

Should they do a sequel or a reboot?

If they kill Syd, Gail or Dewey than it sort of ruins the others well at least if they kill Syd. The great thing about Scream 3 was that she survived it all and could finally move on. To just kill her off to introduce and reboot the franchise would just kill the other movies.

Sequel... I liked the first two, but they should try to keep away from too many movie cliches though, that ruined the third.

Neither. Leave them alone, go in another direction. Hopefully the Weinsteins are smart enough to know better. Then again, seeing some of their other property, and the propensity for the accrual of money, smarts probably isn't enough. In that case, I elect they stick with a true sequel. When something is done right the first time, it just doesn't need a damned reboot. I've always thought that Scream represented Cravven's later life cynicism, as it pokes fun at the work he often once took very seriously. He should either return to his roots or disappear like Carpenter.

"too many movie cliches. . .ruined the third." Funny, ironic even, is that Scream is something of a parady of Carpenter/Craven horror films, and three decades really of teen-related slash flicks, later itself parodied, although obliquely, via the Scary Movie films. When you mentioned the third film, it and Scary movie arrived in theaters the same year. Scream (1996)had the working title of 'Scary Movie' as well. Hollywood slays me intellectually and spiritually.

Maybe they have the same idea they had for Nightmare on Elm St... The killer hunts the actors who played characters in Scream? Could work...

I wish the Weinsteins would give us a proper update,i believe Wes has spoke to neve, seen as they were together at the Scream awards, but as for production early this year, i find it hard to believe at the minute, especially as Neve has gone to South Africa with interest in "Tv show,The Philanthropist"
