Bollywood to Remake "Back to the Future"Posted: January 1st, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
RealBollywood is reporting that Bollywood has set its sights on remaking "Back to the Future," the 1985 film starring Michael J Fox. While Bollywood has been known for simply copying plots of popular properties, it has now started to sign deals with the studios that own the rights. So the new remake will likely be very similar to the original.
The film centers on Marty McFly, a teenager who is unexpectedly sent back and forth in time of present-past-future and meets his parents at his high-school days. He's sent back in time from 1985 to 1955 and also accidentally attracts his mother's romantic interest. Marty must repair the damage to history by causing his parents to fall in love, while finding a way to return to 1985.
Akshay Kumar dons the lead role while Aishwarya Rai (The Last Legion, Pink Panther 2) is the female lead opposite him.
"Back to the Future" is one of the many properties to be remade by Bollywood. The Indian film industry is also looking to tackle "The Italian Job," "Mamma Mia!" and "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels."

why is this such a big deal? american film studios take foreign movie plots and remake them all the time. sometimes with wildly successful results (the departed).

I think remakes need to be made from bad movies so they can improve upon them not make them worse. whats the point in remaking back to the future? can just use the same plot and create new characters? lol

okay, if they want to remake this and make it in a sense "better" because we have better technology now with cameras and CGI and what not. Okay then go for it but please dont fuck with the story. And please cast some good people! Thats all really for this remake needs - a good cast.

I wonder if they can get thr rights to the very iconic and memorable MUSIC, or are they just going to plow the copyrights underground and forge ahead with this unwatchable project?

DeLorians aren't as rare as some think, though they're as rare in India as good tech support.

I'm with marighand. This is no biggie. Hollywood remakes foreign movies as well as their own for no other reason than to put something on the release schedule. This will, at least, be be funny, even if unintentionally.
