"Harry Potter" Franchise in Trouble

Posted: December 31st, 2008 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"Harry Potter" Franchise in TroubleSubmit Comment
Disney recently announced that they will not be involved in the third "Chronicles of Narnia" film due to the economic crisis and the costs associated with another installment. Earlier this year, Warner Bros decided not to proceed with a follow-up to "The Golden Compass," mostly due to the poor domestic box office take.

Now, Warner Bros is starting to doubt the future of the most profitable franchise in film history, "Harry Potter." Screenwriter Steve Kloves said that the studio is worried about the prospects for the last three films in the series, since author JK Rowling is no longer driving anticipation for the titles by producing new books.

"Harry Potter" surpassed "Star Wars" and "The Lord of the Rings," with $4.5 billion in sales. Three installments remain. The "Half-Blood Prince" will be released next year and the final installment will be broken up into two separate films.

I've missed something. The title of this post is an exaggeration, as it states that the Harry Potter franchise is in 'trouble'. No source to back this statement up, just Wp saying that Kloves says that WB is concerned about not making a few more billion in cold hard cash. Sounds like hearsay at abest, and I still don't glean how HP is in any dire situation. judging by the lines at the gas pumps, the toy stores, the movie theaters and grocery stores, people are still spending, and with fluidity. besides, the economic slump is predicted to end by December 2009, well before the last two films appear in theaters.

That is stupid, it is like saying that the Lord of the Rings movies shouldn't have been made because everyone knew how they ended. People watch movies based on books because they want to see the story come to life. Trust me the author won't have any effect on the movies, good or bad.

They have nothing to worry about. Everyone's going to wanna see how they depict the big thing that happens at the end of Harry 6. (I'll be nice and not ruin it for those few of you who don't know by now.)

Space_Ghost 11, they will make the rest of the movies. Most. Profitable. Franchise. Ever. And also this is WB we're talking about, not Disney.

The last two HP films are already in production. They are definitely going to finish and release Deathly Hallows I & II. This is just a result of a slow news day.
