No Interest in Free Bootleg Copies of "Australia"

No Interest in Free Bootleg Copies of "Australia"Submit Comment
Director Baz Luhrmann had a great idea when he decided to make an epic movie about Australia. He cast Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman as the leads and spent a total of $160 million on the production. That's a lot of money considering all the tax breaks the country gave the project.

20th Century Fox has been pushing it as its Oscar contender, but audiences have completely ignored it. After almost five weeks in theaters, "Australia" has earned a total of $44 million domestically, plus only $19 million internationally.

So what's the reason for such poor results? Could it be all the illegal downloads that have ruined the success of so many movies before it? Not really.

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that the demand for pirated bootleg copies of "Australia" on BitTorrent sites appears to be very low. Some have stated that the movie is simply too long at almost three hours and has received too many bad reviews.

pity...... i actually liked this movie a lot. yes it was over long and over produced... but still, a beautiful film with some great performances. It will get plenty of oscar nods and probably wins for costumes, set design and cinematography.

Dude above me is WRONG. the movie sucked and even if it does get nods, it doesnt have a chance in hell winning. Doubt or Curious Case or Duchess will win for Best Costumes, and Curious Case as Cinematography in the bag, along with Best Picture. IMO

No,your wrong Mr.meanmonkey. the movie was great, other than the fact that it was a western with no gun fight. If it had shooting it would have been perfect!

i would rather watch someone shoot another person in a movie theater for talking too loud

The only thing missing was Jackman's coming out scene. A western with no gunfights? WTF? I'm really sick of looking at Kidman. If she gets any thinner and plain, she'll become more transparent than her dreary career. There Will be Blood it ain't.

why would doubt get best costumes, or cinematography? i still stand by my comment. this will get oscar nods adn has a good chance of winning at least one, although i do agree that benji button has cinematography in the bag.

Haha!!!! FOX I guess you had this coming. Make better decisions and piss off less people & just maybe your movies might be worth a damn. P.s. Dropping your Watchmen release delay BS would be a huge start.
