"Yes Man" and "Seven Pounds" Underperformed This Weekend

"Yes Man" and "Seven Pounds" Underperformed This WeekendSubmit Comment
This weekend, Jim Carrey's "Yes Man" brought in a lousy $18 million and Will Smith's "Seven Pounds" earned $16 million, which is the lowest opening for a Smith movie since the early part of this decade. Some believe the poor results had to do with the terrible weather in the Northeast.

Both Sony and Warners expect their respective films to rebound over the Christmas holiday, but the playing field becomes fiercely competitive on Christmas day, when five new titles enter the market, including "Benjamin Button," "Valkyrie" and "The Spirit."

"The Tale of Despereaux," the weekend's other new entry, grossed an estimated $10.5 million from 3,104 runs on the strength of young tots and their parents.

The specialty side wasn't as impacted by bad weather, since moviegoers can walk to theaters in New York during snowstorms. A raft of award nominations fueled interest in a number of titles.

"The Wrestler," toplining Mickey Rourke, posted an impressive screen average of $52,369 in its debut in four theaters in New York and LA, grossing an estimated $209,474.

"
The Slumdog Millionaire" climbed up the top 10 box office chart to place No. 8 in its sixth week, grossing an estimated $3.2 million as it expanded to 589 screens for a per screen average of $5,348 and a total of $12.1 million.

No, man, Yes Man doesn't have a chance at the box office.

"Seven Pounds" is a VERY good movie. You will apreciate it even more if you are/was an ill person. Will Smith's acting skills are truly amazing. All my respect! THE REASON THE MOVIE DID SO BAD AT THE OPENING IS BECAUSE IT WAS ILLEGALY RELEASED (with a good audio/video quality) ON TORRENT TRACKERS FIVE DAYS AGO. This movie will make you spill some tears. Peace! Dan from Romania.

Thats sh*t, I thought both would make a good amount. Seven Pounds looks like a good drama, Will Smith never dissapoints. As for Jim Carrey this looks to me a good comedy for him and I'm going to see it sometime this week. Most everyone I've heard from has said they wanted to see it and that it looked good.

The last movie that Will Smith was in the under performed in the Box Office was Ali. Hopefully this one can bounce back. Yes Man = No man, I will not see this movie. Unless Jim Carrey stars in a movie like he did back in the day (ie: The Mask, Ace Ventura, Cable Guy, Liar Liar), he has no chance of being in a good movie.

They need to hop in the time machine and back up to about 1994 and re-release "Yes man". It would KILL at the box office! Jim Carrey really is this generation's Jerry Lewis...which is sad.
