Kenneth Branagh Talks "Thor" Casting and StorySubmit Comment
During a press junket for "Valkyrie," MTV News had the chance to chat with Kenneth Branagh, who confirmed that he will be directing the upcoming "Thor" film for Marvel.

"I am directing 'Thor' or 'The Mighty Thor' as you might like to call it," he said, before clarifying what the title of the film will be. "I think it will be 'Thor'."

Branagh also spoke about what attracted him to the project. "To work on a story about one of the immortals, Gods, extraordinary beings, inter-dimensional creatures," he enthused. "There's science fiction and science fact and fantasy all woven into one. It's based on Norse legends which Marvel sort of raided in a brilliant way."

So will Kevin McKidd be playing the title hero, as previously rumored? "There's been lots of talk [about casting] I sound like a politician but we are too early at this stage," said Branagh. "We're getting the story and the visual effects together and all of that is very exciting. Someone sensational is going to play the part but it is early days."

He added: "It's a chance to tell a big story on a big scale. It's a human story right in the center of a big epic scenario."

IF it's in Kenneth's hands, i kmnow this film can work. Fantastic actor and director. And it sounds liek he has a love for these kind of stories, the fantasy and lore of Thor!

He sounds like he's got it under control so lets hope when the casting starts he picks a good one. Thor is to great & cool of a comic hero to f*ck up with someone like Matthew Mchanaughey. I honestly dont think they'd cast him though because nobody would ever take that seriously.

Hes a great director. Its good that Marvel has such a good rep with people as good as Kenneth Branagh. Well, I guess just coming off a project with the director of X-Men and X-Men 2 can do that lol (Bryan Singer directed Valkyrie).

Looking good. And he's right, "Thor" would be a better title.
