Academy Awards' Host Revealed

Posted: December 12th, 2008 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Academy AwardsSubmit Comment
Just recently, DeadlineHollywoodDaily reported that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences had chosen their host for the upcoming Academy Awards. While we didn't get a name, we got a few clues. The person would be outside the box, not a comedian, but involved in the movie business. And that person would not tell any jokes.

Many of you started guessing, stating that Robert Downey Jr would be a good choice. While I might agree with that, the actual choice is People Magazine's 2008 "Sexiest Man Alive," Hugh Jackman (Australia, Wolverine).

Seems like Jackman can classy the show up a bit, but he has yet to fully commit to the offer. His representatives are still trying to find out what would be expected of him. And they are objecting to the joke-telling monologue. "I don't want that for him," an insider said. "He is an actor with big movies behind him and one coming this summer. He didn't work the last 20 years to suddenly be a stand-up comedian."

We are still waiting for Jackman's people to respond, which could happen as early as Tuesday. Stay tuned.

Do you think Hugh Jackman is a good choice?

For a nomination...maybe...Don't do it Jackman- your certain to have many pompous and derogatory internet sh*ts ranting about how much of a douche you were... as they do to every host good or not. It'll hurt your image.

this is retarded....like i said, you wanna get kids to watch...get the jonas bros to host...ratings go huge...who cares if the actors are mortified

as much I love Hugh's work...I don't agree with this one. Don't use an actor for that!!!

It should be Chevy Chase, he needs the money!

I think that thing about "doing big movies" and "working the last 20 years to suddenly be a stand-up comedian" is pretty pretentious and offensive for comedians who actually have been able to be good drama actors too. If he can't do stand-up (which I have no idea if he actually can), coz he doesn't have that skill, that's something else. Apart from that I stand curiously looking and waiting to see what actually happens.

hmm, i think Hugh has hosted a couple of award shows here in Australia, mainly dealing with stage shows.. not sure him as a host, but i guess he could do it. But i wouldn't mind seeing him and RDJ hosting it together

They should of chose Ellen Degeneres. She rocked the Oscars last time she hosted. Either her or Ricky Gervais.

Hugh Jackmans a cool dude, I'm sure he could pull it off. Jokes or No Jokes.

Hugh Jackman is a good choice. He can be funny, without 'telling jokes' and is good entertainment inbetween all the segments. As for The Jonas Brothers hosting? bacci40, you should go stick your head in a sandpit, and never come out for even speaking of such a thing!

If he mentions Wolverine once they should just turn his mic off and play a long montage of movie clips. Those are the best parts when there is a bad host.

What the hell are they thinking? Well, at least it's not Jimmy Fallon or Dane Cook.
