New Host and No Jokes During Academy Awards

New Host and No Jokes During Academy AwardsSubmit Comment
DeadlineHollywoodDaily is reporting that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has selected the host for the upcoming Academy Awards, and the choice is "way outside the box." The site adds that the person is not a TV personality or a stand-up comedian, but is someone in the movie business.

And because this new person has no experience of telling jokes, the traditional segment of joke-telling near the start of the broadcast has been cut. An official announcement could be made as soon as Tuesday.

This news comes as no surprise, since the Academy Awards have been slowly shifting in a different direction. Just recently, they approved the airing of movie trailers during the commercial breaks and will likely try to increase their ratings by going after a younger crowd.

Given the clues, any idea who the host could be?

Going for a younger crowd...with no jokes? Great idea, guys. I swear, the academy is getting worse every year.

"Let's make the awards show even less entertaining, that'll grab the younger viewers too!" What is the logic behind this? They need to make up for last year's disaster. Get Sacha Baron Cohen to host, or even Ricky Gervais.

You want to boost ratings? Nominate The Dark Knight for Best Picture.

The 78th Academy Awards will also feature no music and no talking, and air at 4 am.

The 79th Academy Awards will feature no movies and no actors, and air only on Pay-Per-View.

Yes Oscar we want you to become the MTV awards...then films like DeathRace will garner best screenplay. There's was nothing wrong with the format they had before- the problem was simple: THE OSCARS WERE TOO DAMN LONG!!! Move some of the less noteworthy awards to the pre show. We're sick of having to wait 3 and a half hours to get to the awards we actually have an INTEREST in knowing the results for.

It's just going to be a credit reel with one of the voice over guys for movie previews announcing nominations and winners. haha...actually...I bet they are just going to get Bret Ratner. He seems to have his hand in everything these days. Damn him.

It'll be dry and stale, someone without humor. DARK KNIGHT FOR BEST PICTURE! or HEATH LEDGER FOR BEST ACTOR!!!

Who really gives sh*t about such dribble? Really who cares? It is entertainment, why not do a special about advance in curing cancer, hunger and things that really, really matter. Most of these people have no concept of reality or the world until it is time for a photo op.

Either does the rest of the world man...all those things you list are BORING AS HELL on TV. Unless you got some grotesque tumour growing on your face on TLC you're not going to have ratings. Cancer wouldnt cut it...lol sad- but it's true...pointless argument.

To add to what I said, It should of been Ellen Degeneres. She rocked the Oscars last time she hosted. Last year was terrible though.
