Darren Aronofsky Gives "Robocop" Update

Darren Aronofsky Gives "Robocop" UpdateSubmit Comment
Speaking to a group of journalists, director Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler) has revealed that even though the "Robocop" sequels were PG-13, he would still love to return to the hardcore tone of Paul Verhoeven's original R-rated film for his remake.

"If we do it, it [can] definitely be rated R," said Aronofsky. "I mean, [it won't] necessarily, but we have that freedom."

He added that the new movie is still in the script stages and that he and David Self (Road to Perdition) are still developing ideas. "We have a long way to go," explained Aronofsky. "So until there's a screenplay, there's nothing to really talk about. Until we're going, it just doesn't exist for me. It's just like we're trying to get something good, and we'll see what happens."

At this point, MGM is looking to get "Robocop" into theaters by 2010.

There´s no need to do a new RoboCop.

With all due respect to Aronofsky, they should stay the hell away from this. A sequel, if well thought out, could be a good thing. A remake of the original is mindnumbing stupidity. Why the hell would anyone mess with such an excelent film? Screw this noise, and sh*t to all these stupid, useless, cash-grabbing projects.Remake: Let me count the many ways of how I hate this word...

I disagree, when they announced batman begins ppl said its pointless to make another Batman film now we have dark knight best superhero film ever, so yes i look forward for a new robocop especially with Darren attached to it. I rather see a new robocop than not watching anything.

Listen Godfather 53- people were ready to kill for a Batman reboot after the franchise became so bleedingly gayed out. the Batman franchise had some SERIOUS ISSUES...Robocop is a timeless masterpiece of action and sci fi. There's nothing wrong with it. There really is no point- other than money- to remake, reimagine, or re-whatever. I havent watched Tim Burton's Batman since the first screenshots of Batman Begins and we don't want that to happen to Robocop. If it's anything- make it a sequel, stay away from Murphy, and simply inject a new character into the suit making references to the past Robocop. Always make sequels that prompt the audience to watch the original- that's how the entire franchise can make money. Washing over the originals takes away their shelf life.

RoboCop is a cool flick, but it isn't perfect. I'd like to see a more thoughtful version. Something that spends just a bit more time exploring the human aspects of RoboCop and less on the guts and explosions. And why do people call films they really, really like 'masterpieces'? A masterpiece is just what the word implies: a work that exhibits an artist's mastery of a given area of art. just because you like something doesn't necessarily make it a masterpeice. Sometimes remakes work. The remake of The Amityville Horror wasn't bad at all, and Reynolds did a good job. It depends on who is doing the remake, and I think Aronofsky is a thoughtful enough person to treat the subject matter with enough repect. Don't you? Aronofsky is hardly a hack. I'd also like to see what some modern VFX can do on this old flick, remake or sequel.

RoboCop doesn't have a shelf life. You just equated what you consider a great film a mere commercial product. Either great films stand or they do not. they are either commercial products with a ever but slowly dwindling fan base or they are films meant to last ages. Either a remake will either put to bed the original or it will not. Let the quality of the original film decide the matter.

Burton's Batman films resemble the graphic novels more than Nolan's, even if those two earlier films are cheesy by today's grittier and more serious standards.

"Masterpiece" and Timeless go hand in hand. They reissued Robocop on Laserdisc, DVD, etc for a reason...because it has shelf life...You ramble and ramble, and sometimes make a good point- but you're just plain ignorant and clueless on a lot of aspects. Being well read and displaying that in yourt writing doesn't make you the best movie critic...which is why we get annoyed with you and call you a c*nt. But yes Robocop is a masterpiece- maybe the immitators have deluded you to the fact that this thing was cutting edge when it first came on the scene...and stayed that way for a decade...How many 80 and 90's flicks have reviews like "Robocop meets yada yada...Best action flick since Robocop"...It set a bar. You can hate on the gore and yeah its overrated in the human emotion category- but its still a well balanced film and you just may have a bias against it. Ya gotta give credit where credit is due...you seem to only do that when it fits your personal opinions. Which isn't very big of you.

Your opinion on Batman is my opinion on Robocop...so again...Ignorant, annoying c*nt.

what the "F" is wrong with Hollywood these days (sorry don't answer that) Can't these guys come up with any new ideas. There is more remakes then new movies.
