After an open casting call in Texas, M Night Shyamalan cast karate star Noah Ringer as the 12-year-old hero Aang in his upcoming "The Last Airbender" movie. Aang is an Avatar with superpowers who must stop the Fire Nation from destroying the world.

In addition, Jackson Rathbone (Twilight) has been cast as Aang's friend Sokka and Nicola Peltz (Deck the Halls) will star as his sister Katara. Singer Jesse McCartney, meanwhile, is negotiating to play the role of the Fire Nation's evil prince Zuko.

Previously producer Frank Marshall revealed that "The Last Airbender" will begin production in March. It is scheduled to hit theaters on July 2nd, 2010.

That sucks. This is going to be a very bad movie. But that's what M. Night gets for making The Happening. How the mighty have fallen, indeed.

Last time I checked, Aang, Katara, Zuko, and Sokka ain't white. This is f*cking racist. Hiring white people to play asians is like hiring a black dude to play James Bond. It ain't right. M Night Shyamalan is a f*cking idiot.

M. Night rode the success of the Sixth Sense all the way to the bottom. His films have progressed in almost linear fashion into the abyss of awfulness. Sixth Sense was his most popularly acclaimed film, though I prefer Unbreakable. I thought he could do no worse than The Happening. I was wrong. And more no-name white people in a film originally populated by asians? Lol. m. Night couldn't pass muster on his pet projects, his more original and personal films, so he goes the safe commercial route by directing a film few people have heard of? I mean the Last Airbender isn't exactly Pokemon or DragonBall in the eyes of popular culture. What a waste of film. He should step back, make a few indie films, wait a few years, get his sh*t together, and try again. I don't think his arrogance will let him though.

@M2M who says there cant be a black Bond and know (im white). No offense but your the one coming off racist. Any person of color or ethnic back ground can play any fictionial character. But having some one who is asian playing some one like ray charles would be stupid but not racist. no one is slaming other ethnics, here. its not racist what MNight is doing maybe just kinda stupid, but thats it. so you might wanna think before you post something.
