No Crane Kick in "Karate Kid" Remake

No Crane Kick in "Karate Kid" RemakeSubmit Comment
It was recently announced that Columbia Pictures will be putting together a new version of the 1984 hit "The Karate Kid," which has been re-worked as a starring vehicle for Jaden Smith, the 10-year-old son of Will Smith.

It has been said that the new film will be set in that exotic locale and will borrow elements of the original plot, wherein a bullied youth learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor.

Now, JoBlo has learned that young Jaden wants to get rid of the famous crane kick from the new remake. If you remember the first original movie, Daniel (Ralph Macchio) used the kick to win a Karate contest and to defeat the main bully. Instead, Jaden wants to use some moves that he has seen playing video games on his Xbox.

Luckily, his father Will, who is also a producer on the film, has been trying to convince his son to ignore his urges to include unrealistic fighting moves and instead use the crane kick. We'll see how this plays out.

its absolutely ridiculous when a kid chooses what moves go in a multi-million dollar project... absolutely f*ckin Stupid. not to say nothing bad about Will and his son i got lots of respect for that man and what he's become. its just that an actor isnt supposed to choose what goes in a film its the director and producers job.

Great. Smith ruining a classic to ram his poor kid down the audience's throats. Damn, the kid never had a chance to choose his career probably. Sorry Will but you got lucky. Don't think your kid will achieve the same level of stardom, no matter how many times you contrive to put your son into a sh*tty film. Starring vehicle? Wait till it crashes. And Hollywood, idiot fools they are, should make a film about making remakes, and then a few years later, remake that film as well. A remake of a film about making remakes. Tools.

I'll sacrifice three of the neighbor's children to any god willing to ensure this film never gets made.

Wasn't the first Matrix a remake of Karate Kid?

Well, the way I see it there is three problems with this movie so far. Number 1: It is a remake of The Karate Kid. The Karate Kid is a movie that should never be remade. Number 2: There won't be a crane kick? If you are forced to make a remake of a classic movie like The Karate Kid, you have to have what made the movie classic in the remake. THE CRANE KICK!! Number 3: Jaden Smith. Period. The kid is 20 f*cking years old, he can't act for sh*t, he throws temper tantrums when he doesnt get what he wants, and he's already trying to control the movie. No, no, and no.

never back down was a modern day karate kid, why do we need this sh*t, why not throw in some finishing moves ala mortal kombat while you are at it Jaden

The crane kick made that movie. He wasn't even born then so of course he doesn't give a sh*t. Go ahead and let the spoiled brat make the decisions.

Whose son does this kid think he is dictating the martial arts choreography in "The Karate Kid"?! Will Smith?! In all seriousness though, why would a 10-year-old fledgling actor's opinion have any bearing on how a movie gets made. Makes no f*cking sense to me. He wants to 'use moves that he has seen playing video games on his Xbox'? And what games are that, pray tell? "Lego Star Wars"?! "WALL-E" the video game?! Jesus Christ!

hey, let them made it. I donīt like jaden. They will break there backs. You can try to make a remake of karate kid and it will fail. There are some movies which cant be remaded. Like Rocky or The wedding singer.

Great- now the little sh*t gets to call the shots...Long live the new Macaulay Culkin. Ya think the studio would give him the actual discipline of the ACTUAL martial art as his homework...but Xbox should fill him with plenty of respect and realistic expectations for gravity and the capabilities of the human body. hahaha This is going to be a train wreck if Smith can't reign in his own kid. PRODUCE the film Smith- don't just stand around like your kid is being amused at daycare.
Black_Jack writes:

Will, remind your kid that he's in The Karate Kid, not Mortal Kombat. And that he's not in charge.
Johnny Neat writes:

Mind-numbing to even consider his son for the role, care about his meaningless input or let alone remake a classic. Retarded to the max.
PrevalentMind writes:

Then again WIll Smith and his remakes don't really stick to source material like plot development or age ranges- They seem to all be carrying the motto "Paint it Black"...oh yeah I said it...I went there...
