Will Smith Confirms "Hancock" SequelSubmit Comment
During a press junket for "Seven Pounds," JoBlo had a chance to chat with Will Smith, who revealed that a sequel to "Hancock" will "definitely" happen soon.

Smith added that there are a lot of unexplored characters in the "Hancock" universe that would be perfect for a sequel. He also confirmed that "Hancock 2" should appear in theaters in a few years.

In the film, Smith plays a hard-living superhero who has fallen out of favor with the public. He then enters into a questionable relationship with the wife of the public relations professional who's trying to repair his image.

"Hancock" earned $624 million in worldwide ticket sales on a $150 million budget. It also marked the eighth Will Smith film in a row to open at No. 1.

Do you think "Hancock" deserves a sequel?

Money-wise, yes. Quality-wise, no.

The whole appeal to the first Hanc*ck was the main character being a beligerent alcoholic. The actual movie ended up being a ridiculous melodrama about ancient gods. What are they going to do for the sequel, just run with what made the first one fail so miserably?

Not going to watch it. Not interested in non-alcoholic Hanc*ck jokes.

Hanc*ck in AA. that's the only edge I see with this one...but metafact is right. the only substance they have to create a sequel would be continuing ideas that made the first one suck ass- deviating from the ONE thing that would have made Hanc*ck a distinctive franchise and character: BOOZE

Why? They already ruined the original script into a some lame sale.

They'd have to pick right back up from the ending of the first film, utilizing a poor plot vector involving Hanc*ck's love interest with Theron's character. People don't seem to understand. The film used his 'alcoholic belligerence' as ONLY a plot device to give him a sordid past that centered on his failed marriage with Theron. Having him as a drunk superhero only goes so far as well, and basing an entire film on just that premise alone is a shallow adventure. I really wouldn't want to watch him toss kids around and make belching noises laced with edgy jokes for nearly two hours. The scriptwriters realized this as well, which is why they gave him a backstory, a backstory involving one of the more cliched reasons a person dips into alcohol: failed relationships. That Hanc*ck might have been a God of yore makes obvious sense, but they should have uncomplicated the love story, perhaps added a fuller family resolution, perhaps with a son or something, and made his character not entirely likable still by stories end.

Hanc*ck was horrible... i will not be wasting my time and money on the sequel.

hanc*ck was so dumb and retarded

after i watched it i wanted a second one so we can really see his powers, and fight a real villian.
PrevalentMind writes:

They should have kept him as a drunk the entire film- the mistake they made was thinking we wanted the SAME COMIC BOOK MOVIE- we wanted to see a drunk with superpowers...if anything- the climax should have been him entering AA. This was always interesting for THAT comic spin- and doing that would have opened a sequel up to a more cleaner Hanc*ck focussing more on villains...again they simply screwed up this flick since the immensely original, highly offensive first script bu thinking they NEEDED a physical villain...they didnt. The true villain was Hanc*ck's behaviour and addictions...

Yes, it was a great idea, but it needed more developement. If other "gods" came and fought hanc*ck in New York (where the first ended) it would be great. I thought this was a very good attempt of originality, and don't hate the movie, it's hard to be original nowadays, with so many comicbook movies and TV show movies. Don't be a harsh judger. THIS WAS A VERY GOOD MOVIE. I HOPE THEY CONTINUE TO THE STORY OF HANc*ck. THE MUSIC SCORE WAS INCREDIBLE TOO. I Would rank this movie probably top 5 will smith movies. 1. Indendence Day 2. Enemy of the State 3. I, Robot 4. Men in Black 5. Hanc*ck I REALLY HOPE FOR MORE MOVIES OF THIS ORIGINAL MAGNITUDE.. PS... to all those who hated this movie: watch the movie again but with a different mindset, don't compare this to The Dark Knight or Spider-Man or X-men, just watch it and think about the movie; take the time and you'll see this is a movie with ALOT of potention, it just needs the right writers and director.
