Roman Polanski Fighting His Child Molestation Charge

Roman Polanski Fighting His Child Molestation ChargeSubmit Comment
Oscar-winning director Roman Polanski (Rosemary's Baby, Chinatown) has filed a request to have his child-molestation charge dismissed in California.

In 1978, Polanski pleaded guilty in Los Angeles to "unlawful sexual intercourse" with a 13-year-old girl and fled to France before sentencing. He has lived there ever since and obtained French citizenship.

France and the United States have a limited extradition treaty, and Polanski has faced arrest if he sets foot on US soil.

Polanski was married to actress Sharon Tate. She was 8 1/2-months pregnant when she and four others were butchered in 1969 by followers of Charles Manson.

Too bad Cali has no statute of limitations on filed criminal cases. 30 years is a long time for the tenacious pursuit a sex crime.

You do the crime, you gotta do the time. Polanski is a smart man, but this can't be erased no more than his wife's murder can. Its shameful knowing he survived horrible times in the Nazi controlled Kraków ghetto as a child and losing his mother in the process at the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp only to come to have done what he did as an adult. Pretty weak.

Seriously, you can't expect to get back in when you sleep with a preteen girl and then skip the country to escape punishment. No. I don't care how good a filmmaker you are. You're not any better than anyone else.

30 years ago. Some crimes pass beyond the boundary of the law. What a dumb ass. Polanski performed oral sex and then anally raped the girl. Sick crime sure, but what good would his imprisonment serve? That was three decades ago, and whatever scars that girl has are there for life. Would she feel better with him in prison? I doubt it. Maybe had he gone then, but what's done is done. And I have some pity for the guy, even though he's sick and twisted for doing something incredibly f*cked up. Poor Sharon Tate and her baby just weeks away from birth. I have to wonder if all that just warped the guy, that and the holocaust issue, so that he was hopped up on pills all the time. Who knows. Do the crime do the time, sure, but the time sometimes is the wrong choice in peculiar cases such as these. Society and the victim aren't served much by having some old director die in prison getting ass raped by gangs, even if the crime is unmentionable.

Roman Polanski did a really depraved thing, but he's one helluva director, I'll give him that. The girl he molested is in her forties now, I think, and if I can recall a recent interview with her, I believe she said she just wanted to forget about the whole ordeal. Huh. Pretty unshakable resolve, I gotta say. Polanski should face some repercussions for his actions, no doubt, but I just don't think a prison sentence is the most appropriate punishment, considering it happened 30 years ago and he's 75-years-old.

He should just do what Woody Allen did and marry her...problem solved.
