Major "Nottingham" Spoiler

Major "Nottingham" SpoilerSubmit Comment
Not too long about, Russell Crowe was announced to play the role of Sheriff of Nottingham in the upcoming Robin Hood story by Ridley Scott (Gladiator). The idea was that the story would be told from the Sheriff's point of view.

Many wondered which big star would be cast as Robin Hood opposite Crowe. That question was later answered, when Scott revealed that Crowe would be playing both the Sheriff and Robin Hood. It seems that the answer created more questions. How will this work? Are they twin brothers? Will Crowe use lots of make-up to look like two different characters?

Well, all those questions have now been answered by producer Brian Graze, who revealed some plot points which can be considered spoilers.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

Asked about the confusion over who Crowe is in fact playing, Grazer told MTV News: "The two role confusion is that what Robin Hood does is he sees Nottingham in battle very early in the movie and Nottingham dies. And Robin Hood takes over the identity of Nottingham. That's how it plays out."

Grazer went on to call the film "an origin story" for the characters.

Does that sound like a clever take on the classic story?

That doesn't make sense..... but i don't think i wanna see Robin Hood as the bad guy, He was always a hero to me when I was a kid. Although I like Ridley Scott, except for that his movies take a long time to get to the point or climax...

It could be interesting. Must be done right, though. I don't think we'll be seeing the "traditional" Sheriff or Robin Hood. A new take is fine, but it has to be done right.

It might be good. Im not a big fine of Ridley though. His movies dont make sense until the very end. So its like your sitting through a boring ass 2 hour movie, and you get a 2 minute semi-good ending....

I agree with Guitar, it doesn't make since for him to take over....although if I did it, It would go like this: Seeing as Nottingham is the main focus I would figure that all the stories he hears about Hood would have him reflecting and imagining what is going on...since Hood's indentity is somewhat oblique to him he would imagine Robin Hood in his own image flashing to what Robin Hood is doing. That way when they meet in the end it could be played as someone else or rather as him showing that Nottingham truly imagined what Robin Hood would look like. Now thats a good formula geez can't these Film Exec's get off the high horse and use their brains a little?

How does it not make sense? The sheriff dies in the beginning....Robin Hood steals his identity...and yes that sounds cool. You're all thinking way too deep here. Ignore the 1991 film and everything you heard about this character and wait for Scott's take on it. This is certainly Scott giving us a great popcorn flick...lucky for us his idea of a popcorn flick is Gladiator.
