"I Am Legend" Prequel is Now a Sequel

"I Am Legend" Prequel is Now a SequelSubmit Comment
"I Am Legend" director Francis Lawrence has previously revealed that he is already thinking up ideas for an "I Am Legend" prequel, which would see Will Smith returning as Robert Neville.

Now, AICN received a scoop that Warner Bros, Will Smith and Lawrence have decided that a prequel won't work. Instead, they will make a sequel. Here is what the scooper had to say:

"Let's start at the beginning. Smith is actually the one who developed the initial story. It took place several years before the original film and there were still pockets of survivors and the story centered around Smith interacting, bonding, and ultimately failing to save them. For months this was the story. Warner's didn't much care for it and Smith and Weiss eventually came on board and all parties agreed to change things up. Well this change is pretty insane, the film is no longer a prequel, it's a f*cking sequel!"

Spoilers: If you have not seen the first movie, do not keep reading.

It might be difficult to make an "I Am Legend" sequel with Will Smith involved, since his character died. Sure, there was an alternate ending in which Robert Neville survives, but Warners cannot expect fans to accept an alternate ending over the original one.

Would you rather see an "I Am Legend" prequel or sequel?

how about a sequel/prequel, where it starts off a few years after the first movie and he's alive. It then goes back to before the infection and during the first few years of his survival. Then it skips to when he "dies" in the first and before the grenade explodes he jumps through the window towards the infected and he leaps under something sturdy and he survives. The story then continues from there.

i think it should be both too.. I don't see a problem with that. milwaukee marvel stop thinking inside the box. what are you five? You most likely don't write..

prequel

I think they should just abandon the movie entirely. The movie totally missed the whole point of the book. It totally changed the ending of book. He is supposed to be captured and killed by the vampires because he finally realizes that he himself is the legend, that they are terrified by him, and in the end kill him. In the book the girl really was a vampire sent in to befriend him and capture him. They totally left this out of the movie and doing so completely ruined the book-movie adaptation.

"stop thinking inside the box." The cliche is inappropriate. Marvel wasn't addressing whether MovieFanAttic's ideas are convention or not, he was complaining in his typically illiterate style about the poster's length.

How about neither? One direction sounds depressingly lackluster while the other is a complete stretch of disbelief...You f*cked yourselves with the lame ending you took- except it, release a redux cut or whatever the hell ever, make that money, and leave the people who enjoyed the first film happy.

yeah i like MovieFanAttic's idea. do it like The Godfather, Part II
niteowl writes:

but do it lyk we carry on Anna's story and then we flash back to right after the helicopter explodes in the first one
meanmonkey22 writes:

both.

How about neither? This is one of the most overrated movies I've ever seen. I love Will Smith's work, but I would rather watch "Omega Man" from back in the day than watch a prequel or a sequel to this movie.

What are you guys talking about??? This movie blew!! If Will Smith hadn't been in the movie it would have gone straight to DVD. If they must make this...I say prequel so they can call it "Am I Legend?" then they could do a sequel after that and call it, "I'm still Legend"
Sinestro writes:

The movie was actually pretty good during the first half. Before it broke down into the usual Will Smith firework display.

Neither They showed flashbacks(so no prequel) and the character Robert Neville is dead! Leave it alone, please don't ruin it.

Yeah kinda do what Godfather 2 did. Show what the first didnt really get into. I mean it was short clips, dreams, nothing more then him trying to get his wife and daughter out. Show what happened after them dieing and the cities falling. Then cut back to the present with the female character from the first in the survival community. Its not hard for them to formulate some story about how the vaccine didnt work, or the virus has mutated. It in essence it is a virus, so mutation is possible. And come on its Hollywood, im sure they can dream up some half brain idea so A. Will Smith is still in it and B. it will explain the story after the first film. So like above sequal/prequal. Just like Godfather 2.

The movie was a disappointment and quite honestly doesn't need a sequel. Unless Matheson (the original writer) wrote one, leave it alone.
