"World of Warcraft" Movie is in DevelopmentPosted: November 22nd, 2008 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Now that the new "World of Warcraft" game has sold almost 3 million copies within its first 24 hours of release, MTV decided to go back to Blizzard to find out about the rumored movie.
Frank Pearce, VP of product development, revealed that a "World of Warcraft" movie is currently in development. "Legendary Pictures is currently trying to assign some names to write the screenplay and find someone to direct it, so it’s still really early in production," he said. "They want to make sure they get the right talent for those different parts, especially the screenwriting, because that's the foundation for the movie."
Will the new movie be completely CGI, in the vein of the games? "[The idea] has come up in discussions but it's not something we've really considered because it takes so long to generate just the brief amount of footage that we create for the game," Pearce explained. "That department's focus is creating the footage for the games to tell the story; it would be a huge undertaking and it's not really something that we're ready to do anytime soon."
"Wrath of the Lich King" is the fastest-selling PC game of all time. Do you think that could translate into a box office hit?

I wonder if World of Warcraft players can stop playing their games long enough to go see the movie? And if they can do they have dates, or just go alone like the freaks they are? Hmm...

So agree then again I wonder if Uwe Bolle will direct it? Cause you know how much he loves video game films.

You're missing the point. The movie isn't for current players but for future ones... :D

I can tell this movie will bomb, all computer game adaptaions do and they really end up hurting the franchise. We gonan see a lot of WoW fans soon walking the streets and being inteh sun....two things they ahve never done before after this movei has been released

I think the success of this really depends. If they said they want to make sure they get the right talent for the writing and directing, it could be they are caring enough to actually try to make a decent film and not just another Uwe Boll. However, most video game adaptions fail, with perhaps the exception of Resident Evil (first one only). You never know, we'll just have to wait and see.

The CG cinematics in all of the WoW games thus far have been pretty damn awesome but as far as a movie goes?..i can't see it. Cg movies not aimed at children seem to do poorly and a WoW movie would certainly try and hit the pg audience thus making it (probably) unbearable
