Spike Jonze Talks "Where the Wild Things Are" + Two PhotosSubmit Comment
It has been a while since there has been any news of the upcoming Spike Jonze adaptation of "Where the Wild Things Are." Warner Bros has been rumored to delay the film because a screening left kids scared due to being "too adult." Since then, the studio has dumped some more money into the project and has even set a release date of October 16th, 2009.

Now, AICN had the chance to speak to Jonze about the status of his film. "We just locked picture about three weeks ago, and we'll probably finish all the effects by, like, May or so," he said. "Then we mix in May and we have our dates in October."

Jonze even touched on some of the problems with the studio. "I think that's what freaked the studio out about the movie too. It wasn't a studio film for kids, or it wasn't a traditional film about kids," he explained. "We didn't have like a Movie Kid in our movie, or a Movie Performance in a Movie Kid world. We had a real kid and a real world, and I think that's sort of where our problem was. In the end they realized the movie is what it is, and there's no real way to... it's sort of like they were expecting a boy and I gave birth to a girl. So they just needed their time to sort that out and figure out how they were going to learn to love their new daughter."

In addition, AICN got their hands on two more still from the movie. You can check them out by clicking on the link below.

What they have shown looks amazing. Granted that doesn;t make a film, but Jonze should be respected as an artist with a vision and be allowed to go where he wants to go with it. I think he has good judgment and an amazing vision. Studio heads need to get their heads out of their asses and allow the artists to express their artistic visions.

He only wanted to do the book justice- and I'm sure he did. Those in the screening who had read the book were even rumoured to have had verbal arguments with the crowd that didn't 'get it'. There was a legion of users on IMDB ranting that the film they saw in comparison to the book- which is a very accomplished, dark, and mature story- was absolutely perfect in every respect. Warner were the ones who gave themselves bad press by announcing reshoots and releasing the comments of the audience who had no idea Where the Wild Things Are wasn't going to be a silly, cuddly Dr Suess film. Another reason to allow your thought provoking book tales instead of Dora the Explorer.
