"Quantum of Solace" Makes Best Ever Bond DebutSubmit Comment
In a historic victory for a film franchise that's nearly half a century old, "Quantum of Solace" secured the biggest domestic opening ever for a Bond pic. It grossed an estimated $70.4 million from 3,451 theaters, which is 74% more than "Casino Royale." Previous record-holder for best Bond opening was "Die Another Day" ($47 million).

"Solace's" win at the domestic box office continues the film's worldwide domination. Through Sunday, the 22nd official Bond pic had earned an estimated $251.6 million at the international box office for a worldwide total of $322 million.

The family title "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" easily jumped the $100 million mark in its second week. Toon declined 43% to an estimated $36.1 million from 3,451 theaters for a new total of $118 million.

The specialty side showed also saw strong results as Fox Searchlight's "Slumdog Millionaire" scored the best per-theater average of the year for a specialty title. "Slumdog," from filmmaker Danny Boyle," grossed an estimated $350,434 from 10 theaters for a per-location average of $35,043 and a total of $418,131. (Film opened last Wednesday.)

Just saw the film and I couldn't have been more disappointed. Craig was great as expected but the plot went absolutely nowhere. The ending was vague and could have been taken care of in the first 5 minutes instead having us to wait 2hrs only yo be left to assume what happened next. Bummer...

It wasn't a bad movie had it been a stand alone Bond feature but the ending of Casino Royale led us to believe Quantum would pick right up where the last film left off, and it does. For about 8 minutes which were cut in half by 2 hrs of more or less unrelated action. Not at all what I was expecting or what we deserved.
