"Lethal Weapon 5" is NOT DeadPosted: November 10th, 2008 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
"Lethal Weapon" director Richard Donner recently revealed that Mel Gibson is not interested in making a fifth installment in the "Lethal Weapon" franchise, even if everyone else is eager to return. According to Donner, the project is pretty much dead.
Not quite, says producer Joel Silver, who has recently spoken to Gibson. "We talked about it, but it was something that Mel didn't want to do now," he explained. "It doesn't mean that he doesn't want to do it ever, but as of right now, he doesn't."
At this point, Silver is content with putting the fifth film aside, but it is something he would love to revisit in the future. "If we can do it, it would be fun," Silver told IGN. "Shane [Black] had a great take on it, a great idea, a great feeling about it. He did a really complex kind of treatment or outline, very complicated, very good. The idea that they wanted to get it up right away, we couldn't do that, but we'll see what happens."
With Mel Gibson and Danny Glover not getting any younger, do you think this project will ever get off the ground?

It should be dead...Look I love shane Black getting control of his creation, but 4 was a great note to leave on- and no one wants to see a passing of the torch. The franchise was about family- losing and gaining one and thats the way the series ends. Lethal Weapon IS THE BEST action franchise ever- 4 movies all of them deserving at least 4 stars and not a single stinker. Let it go out the way it did. ON TOP! Don't give us another DieHard4 just because you can.

Mel is too smart to go back there. Chris Rock made sure of that. Sorry Shane.

It would be fun to see Mel doing some light action again. I really liked him as a lead, and there is something reassuring about movies like this. They are fun, recognizable and classic popcorn sellers. I kind of miss good movies like that.
