Benicio Del Toro's "Che" Teaser

A teaser trailer for the upcoming "Che" movies (The Argentine, Guerrilla), starring Benicio Del Toro as the famous revolutionary, has been released. There is not much in this teaser, besides some shots of Del Toro and a few scenes from the movies.

"The Argentine" takes place in 1956, when Ernesto 'Che' Guevara (Del Toro) and a band of Castro-led Cuban exiles mobilize an army to topple the regime of dictator Fulgencio Batista.

The second film, "Guerrilla," revolves around Guevara and his 1964 travels to New York City to address the United Nations.

The two pics have a combined budget of around $70 million and are both directed by Soderbergh, who is responsible for such films as "Erin Brockovich," "Traffic" and the three "Ocean's" movies. Both of the Che films are set to appear in theaters on December 12th.

It looks great but here's the problem I have with it...and bare with me- but it's way too lackluster. Although I respect Soderbergh's creative decisions there needs to be spectacular trailers for these films- not artsy of counter culture- it needs to have the studio zing. That trailer may look good to moviegoers and academics, but it's not going to make the films a financial hit- this is the best opportunity to have this man's story reach out, and you're not going to reach people by boring them with a teaser. The films are perfect the way they are- but you need to get into the studio mindset for the promotion or this is going to be one big 70 million dollar home movie for Soderbergh.

Awesome, now all those trendy hipsters will know whose face they've been wearing on their t-shirt. Hint kiddies: it ain't Zach De La Rocha! I'm sure it'll be a great film, too bad it wasn't made 20 years ago before CHe was synonymous with Hot Topic and Rage Against the Machine

PrevalentMind is right. I thought about seeing this film but after watching the trailer, I'm looking to C-SPAN for some excitement. Sheesh.

Lackluster for sure but was the Motorcycle Diaries' trailer Hollywoody? No. It wasn't all excitment but it had a tone that I think this teaser needed. Hopefully they will get it right by the time the trailer(s) appear. Anyhow I just hope it shows him as he was and not how it has all been made out to be. He isn't a hot topic tee and he isn't what Castro loves to use as a symbol. If Steven can do that and didn't create another Hollywoodized Bulls#!t Biopic, then I will be more than happy.

You're an idiot, PrevalentMind. You want to SPREAD Che Guevara's policy of mass-murder, torture and repression of human freedom?

You are such a pretentious twat.
