Why Terrence Howard is Not in "Iron Man 2"

Why Terrence Howard is Not in "Iron Man 2"Submit Comment
It was recently announced that Marvel Studios have replaced Terrence Howard with Don Cheadle in the upcoming "Iron Man" sequel. Howard later went on record stating that this came as a big surprise to him and he had no idea why the studio decided to swap him for a different actor, especially since his Jim Rhodes role was hinted in the first movie to be expanded greatly.

Hollywood insiders believe that studio is refusing to bring Howard back is because of his difficult behavior on the set of the first film. But Entertainment Weekly says that the actual reason is much more dramatic.

"Howard was the first actor signed to the film and, on top of that, was the highest-paid. That's right: more than Gwyneth Paltrow. More than Jeff Bridges. More than Robert Downey Jr. And once the project fully came together, it was too late to renegotiate his deal. It didn't help that, according to one source, Favreau and his producers were ultimately unhappy with Howard's performance, and spent a lot of time cutting and reshooting his scenes."

"As such, when Favreau and screenwriter Justin Theroux went to map out the sequel they found themselves minimizing Howard's story line. Once Marvel learned that Favreau was thinking of curtailing the role, the studio went to the actor's agents with a new and drastically reduced offer a number that's similar to what supporting cast members were paid for the first movie. The agents, according to sources, were so taken aback by this new figure estimated at somewhere between a 50 and 80 percent pay cut that they questioned it. Multiple sources say that Marvel execs never told Howard's reps that they had issues with the star's on-set conduct.

basically...he wanted too much money, and the suits are trying to come up with reasons why they chose not to give it to him...howard was fine in the movie...of course he isnt going to take a significant pay cut...the man has gotta eat

What's he eating? Bald eagle heads and Faberge eggs? I just can't feel sorry for the guy, actors make a ton of money.

I understand the problem, but i still hate it when movies try to pass off a new actor as the same character in a sequel... it just makes it seem like they think we're stupid.

I believe, that howard's voice is too girly...I recall a scene in the the first Ironman movie: He's running down the stairs to look for Tony..and yelling "tony, tony!" This is only just one example of many. His voice is too whispy and not manly?..haha

I thought Howard did fine. I wonder what a true War-Machine fan would think of the switch? As a movie fan, I just wish they would have stuck with Howard throughout the serious. He seems like he would be more believable as a super hero than Cheadle.
