Clint Eastwood's "Gran Torino" Details Revealed

Clint Eastwood has become a real threat during the Awards season, having previously won for "Million Dollar Baby" and nominated for "Letters from Iwo Jima." His latest film is "The Changeling," which Universal is hoping will get a few nominations during the Oscars. But Warner Bros is in the Eastwood game as well, as they are preparing to release "Gran Torino" this Christmas.

So it looks like Eastwood will be competing for awards against himself. "I was perfectly satisfied with (Gran Torino) coming out next year, and (Warner Bros) said we need it in December," he explained to USA Today. "I said OK. Now I guess I don't have to worry next year about having anything out. That's great."

There haven't been too many details revealed about "Gran Torino," except that Eastwood will direct and star as a racist Korean War veteran who reluctantly bonds with an immigrant Asian neighbor over a classic car.

Eastwood describes his character as unflattering and potentially controversial. "I'm a weirdo in it. I play a real racist," he said. "It's a great time in life (to do that) because, you know, what can they do to you once you're past 70? There's nothing they can do. But it also has redemption. This Hmong family moves in next door, and he has been in the Korean War, in the infantry, and looks down on Asian people and lumps everybody together. But finally they befriend him in his time of need because he has no relationship with his family."
