Ryan Gosling in The Green Lantern?

Ryan Gosling in The Green Lantern?Submit Comment
DC Comics' Green Lantern will be getting his own film soon. In fact, Warner Bros is fast-tracking it for a February start date and a Spring shoot, with casting of the title character already in progress. So, who could play The Green Lantern/Hal Jordan?

According to LatinoReview and their trusty studio source, Ryan Gosling (The Notebook, Half Nelson) is the top choice. And why not? Both the comic book character and Gosling are 27 years old and Gosling is an Oscar-nominee.

It was previously announced that the project was "in active development," with Greg Berlanti ("Everwood") listed as a writer, in addition to Marc Guggenheim ("Eli Stone") and Michael J. Green ("Everwood," "Smallville").

There is also a brief summary of the plot: "Each sector of space is protected by a Green Lantern, possessing a power ring that uses a powerful green energy to do anything within the limits of the userís imagination and will power. When the Green Lantern assigned to this sector of space finds himself dying on planet Earth, he tells the ring to find a suitable successor. The chosen replacement, hot-shot test pilot Hal Jordan, finds himself with a new job he never expected."

Do you think that Gosling is a good choice?

Where does it say Hal Jordan is 27? This movie sounds like a stinker with Gosling. What about Will Smith as GL John Stewart?

Gosling would be a good Hal Jordan. And he's 27 when the he gets the ring in the comic. Don't comment on things you know nothing about, whether it is acting or comics as source material.

i always picture hal Jordan as old because of his present age, if they wanted a young lantern now they should use Kyle Rainer

Blank x2, I asked a question. That's not a comment, d*ck. Don't talk about parts of speech you know nothing about. PS - I've got more comics than you do.

As far as the age of the character goes, that isn't really an issue. As far as Ryan Gosling goes, I think it might be ok as long as GL and Star Sapphire don't try to re-enact the Notebook.

they should make the lantern john stewart...hal jordan is boring...come on...even marvel is using the ultimate nick fury instead of the reg universe...make lantern a black guy...just dont let it be will smith

Okay, I've read an early draft of the script and I'm not going to give anything away but Gosling is the best choice for the role. The story is very faithful to the Hal Jordan origin and should be a decent film. (I'm not that enthusiastic about this film because I am a very big fan of the John Stewart GL, but that's just my bias.) Ryan Gosling is the only choice for Hal Jordan in this film. PERIOD. He's a good actor that could really flesh this character out. Don't fret GL enthusiasts, if they get the art design right this film should be fun.
