"The Dark Knight" Sequel Rumors are "All B.S."

"The Dark Knight" Sequel Rumors are "All B.S."Submit Comment
"The Dark Knight" is the second most successful movie of all-time and it is loved by both critics and fans, so rumors about the third movie started as soon as the second one appeared in theaters. According to information spreading across the internet, Johnny Depp is The Riddler, Philip Seymour Hoffman is The Penguin and Cher/Angelina Jolie is Catwoman. But according to "The Dark Knight" writer David Goyer, "It's all B.S. All of it."

Apparently, director Christopher Nolan has yet to sign on for the third film and until he does, casting, story and characters will not be discussed. "Chris and I haven't even talked about it," Goyer told MTV News. "He quite understandably is taking a long, long vacation and wants to purge himself."

He added that there is nothing official, but admits that there have been some "unofficial" talks. "We have mused here and there [but] I mean Chris is pretty much a one movie at a time kind of guy," Goyer said. "I wish I could tell you more. There really isn't anything to tell."

Goyer also stated that he finds these fan speculations "amusing."

This is interesting news, since some of the rumors didn't come from fans, but from actor Michael Caine. He said that he spoke to a Warner Bros executive, who revealed to him that both Depp and Hoffman are considered for The Riddler and The Penguin. Since then, Depp has stated that he would be interested, while Hoffman rejected the idea of him playing a villain in a comic book movie. Regarding Catwoman, Angelina Jolie has expressed interest.

I agree with Nohands. Just Riddler, if you please. Maybe Catwoman too.

All three could work: Penguin - Cobblepot as the head of a rival corporation, his personal logo or perhaps the corporate logo is a "Penguin" (Linux vs. batman!) thus a way around the hokey aspect of the character. Penguin's corporation engages in industrial espionage vs Wayne Enterprises. Edward Nigma and Selina Kyle are hired to perpetrate said attacks which leads to confrontation with the Batman. Riddler provides the brainy side of the story, Catwoman the action/love interest (although it may be too early w the death of Rachel in the last film) and Penguin provides the real world backdrop to the story which is essential in keeping withthe tone of the last films. Just my $.02

i kind of agree. have all 3, i have faith in nolan! set it up like the dark knight. they had joker as the main villian until they introduced two face, then harvey was the villian for the last bit of the film. so in the 3rd have penguin & catwoman as the main villians in gotham, but catwoman slowly kreeps away from the badgirl act and starts to side with batman, while she could see batman as a love interest and bruce not be ready for anything like that again yet, after loosing rachel in TDK. that rite there could last you an entire movie (love story part of it anyway). but after they cant bring down penguin for whatever reason, go with the theory they've had in some of the comics where gordon and the police station bring in the riddler for help, but in the process of the riddler (NOT working with batman) to bring down penguin, he ends up going down his own path of destruction, and then kind of go away from the penguin character for a little bit, and focus on the riddler, (who edward nigma would of been in the beginning of the movie as well, just like harvey dent in TDK, but not as is alter ego) finally the end of the film would be batman & catwoman vs. the riddler vs. the penguin. and i also would love to see depp as the riddler, and jolie i think would make a good catwoman, not as sexy as hally berry but lot better at acting the role. haha. and hoffman could make a good penguin, but i dont really see it, maybe for the original movie with the penguin in it (batman returns) but nolan and the crew are too good at making the characters just "nasty" chiling and complex and i dont see hoffman doing as good of job at the penguin in a situation or role like that as everyone thinks he would. but thats just my opinion.
