Johnny Depp to Earn $56 Million for "Pirates 4"Posted: October 7th, 2008 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Disney has recently announced that Johnny Depp would return as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" film. Now, the DailyMail is reporting that the studio will dish out around $56 million to make sure that they have their star.
These kind of numbers are nothing new in Hollywood. Tom Hanks took home around $50 million for "The Da Vinci Code" sequel and Tobey Maguire is rumored to earn the same for the next two "Spider-Man" installments.
To justify Depp's take, it's likely that Disney will not ask Keira Knightley or Orlando Bloom to return, making "Pirates of the Caribbean 4" a spin-off as rumored. Insiders claim that the story will revolve around Jack Sparrow searching for the fountain of youth or for the lost world of Atlantis. Or maybe for both.
The first three "Pirates of the Caribbean" films earned over $2.6 billion in worldwide ticket sales.
Do you think $56 million is too much to pay for an actor?

It's way too much... I personally think that the studios should keep more so that they can keep more people employ instead of giving most to Depp.

It's not too much he works hard and makes the fans happy. Tobey Maguire on the other hand should have said no to Spider man 3 because of the terrible script but i guess he wanted to mess up the character with his dumb dancing.

It sounds like a lot because none of us are used to handling sums of money that large. I know what some of you are saying, but look at it from the studios point of view....why would you not spend 50 million on an actor if that one movie alone is going to make around 600-700 million worldwide. Sounds smart to me...
