Yesterday Walt Disney Pictures announced that Johnny Depp would be starring in many of their upcoming projects, including "Pirates of the Caribbean 4," "Alice in Wonderland" and "The Lone Ranger." What's interesting is that while most people assumed that Depp would play the title character in "Ranger," he actually will portray Tonto, the Lone Ranger's Native American sidekick. So who will play the lead?
AICN received a scoop from a reliable source that the studio is looking for George Clooney to join the new Jerry Bruckheimer-produced project. Here is what the source had to say:
"Word as of now is that George Clooney has shown a lot of interest in the role of the Lone Ranger, and the studio's been talking to him about it. Previously it was rumored that Nic Cage was up for the role, but that rumor died a long time ago. Clooney's name has come up quite a number of times since."
In my opinion, Clooney may look like a great Lone Ranger, but I would have loved to see Depp as the title character. What do you guys think?

I'd rather see what Depp can bring to Tonto. Tonto is a character that has always needed more deppth.

I think that Johnny Depp is a little overrated. Sure he's a great actor, that's for sure, but I think N8R's right, he would be better in the Tonto role as opposed to the lead. I liked the "deppth" joke by the way, N8R.

Depp as Tonto makes more sense. One the character would finally have depth and two Depp is part Native American and would look the part more so that the Ranger as Clooney would be a lock.
