Will Smith Returns for "I Am Legend" PrequelPosted: September 25th, 2008 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Warner Bros has set in motion a prequel to the Will Smith starrer "I Am Legend." The plan is for Smith to reprise his role as scientist Robert Neville, with Francis Lawrence returning to direct.
The studio has set DB Weiss to write a script that is based on a detailed outline that was hatched over the past few months by Smith, Akiva Goldsman, James Lassiter and Lawrence.
The prequel will chronicle the final days of humanity in New York before a man-made virus caused a plague that left Smith's character the lone survivor among a mutated mob in the city.
Making a prequel was the only way to extend a franchise that grossed $584 million worldwide for Warner Bros and keep Smith in the lead role. His character was killed in the first film, after extracting a potential cure for the virus for the scattered survivors.

this could be good... the only stupid thing is the original ending of the first movie.. the alternative version is better ! and moreover, smith is still alive...

This is good, there is more to do in a empty city like New York, in the first movie was the scenery beatiful!!! only the monsters looks like sh*t, give me the zombies out 30 days of night or 28 weeks later...

Agreed full CGI people are lame, no reason for it and a waste of money. Anyhow being as they raped the book, I would say a prequel has a chance of actually being exciting. Sorry, I guess I'm in the minority who think Will Smith is a good actor when a strong director has him. Sadly his PR presentation gets ahead of his characters and stories. Image control is out of control in his case for showcasing his abilities but seeing as this PR controlled image makes money that probably won't change.

Here's an idea: remake the entire movie and maintain the story in true form to the novel which was amazing. Then you'd have a great film (maybe) the first time around and would have no need for a crappier prequel.
