Tobey Maguire's $50 Million Deal for "Spider-Man" Sequels

TimesOnline is reporting that the deal with Tobey Maguire to return for two more "Spider-Man" films is pretty much complete, and with lots of interesting details.

Maguire is willing to shoot "Spider-Man 4" and "Spider-Man 5" back-to-back over six months next year, but only if he can take early mornings and evenings off in order to play with his 22-months-old daughter. In exchange for putting in half-days of work, he will earn a record $50 million in salary and profit shares.

In the next few days Sony is expected to reveal whether Kirsten Dunst will be returning as Mary Jane Watson. Dunst, 26, has recently talked about a struggle with clinical depression.

Until recently it was uncertain whether Maguire would return to the franchise, and Sony had already put together a list of actors to replace him. But when Maguire's agents came back to the negotiating table, it was only the "family time" that was the issue. The studio is usually careful about approving such requests because it could set a precedent. Finally, chairman Amy Pascal, herself a mother, agreed to the deal, stating that six months without "family time" would not be fair on any parent.

The article mentions that today's Hollywood actors are being called "boy-men," for their behavior off-screen. Proof of this happened when director McG couldn't find many tough-guys in Hollywood, outside of Russell Crowe and Josh Brolin, to replace Arnold Schwarzenegger in the upcoming "Terminator Salvation."

There are many soldiers in Iraq who leave their families for over 12 months to fight for their country and don't get $50 million for it. On the other hand, if Maguire can get Sony to pay him ridiculous amounts of money for little work, then I say: Congratulations Maguire.

Actors are more pampered than other people in Hollywood and its honestly absolutely ridiculous. They do the least amount of work and get paid the most. They show up to the set, shoot their scene, then go back to their trailers and wait for the next scene. If Im going to pay someone 50 mil youre going to be available any damn time I want to shoot. Tobey Maguire isnt even that good of an actor. He is also an a****** and I know this because I worked on a film called Brothers which he stars in. I also talked to him for a brief minute in which he came off extremely arrogant. Spiderman 3 sucked anyway. I probably wont even see 4 and 5.

I wonder how far this franchise will go. Spider-man 3 left a very bad taste in my mouth, and I can't be the only one.

They completely screwed up venom in 3. Hopefully venom wont even be in the next film. I would actually like to see someone other than mcguire step into the role of spidey. NO more DANCING down the street Tobey

It's all about of fame and "face", because the people behind the camera, the people that work in the set are only working; Tobey is actually getting paid to show himself, to sell his face. If you become a celebrity too, you can want 5-6 million dollars only for a promotion of a company product. By the way, I hope the Spider-Man saga (I think there will be a 6th movie also) will be as good as the first movie was - I mean - I don't want the series to be broken and separate from each other as a reason of capitalism and story change.

I so happy he is coming back. I didnt want the role of Spider-Man become like James Bond or Batman, where a million different actors would play the role.

Sam better not mess these next two up because he F#@$! up venom. I don't blame Tobey for dancing in the streets and all the other stupid stuff in the movie he had to do what the script says. *blame Sam* that ass......
