Plot: A widower returns to his hometown to search for answers to his wife's murder, which may be linked to the ghost of a murdered ventriloquist. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0455760/)

This was rented about a month ago, not bad to see. I cant remember if this was the movie rented, that was the same writers that did Saw, not 100% on this, but I think I remember hearing about it.

James Wan and Leigh Whannell wrote Saw together and are largely responsible for the franchise's success. After seeing Dead Silence though its pretty obvious where the talent in that writing team is. Hint, its not James Wan.
The movie had a pretty creepy setting, with some serious potential. Everyone hates dummies, they are just simply creepy. However when the movie's main protagonist turned from the dummy, to an old woman, the story took a serious turn into snoozeville. The hook was also fairly retarded. Basically, the old woman can't hurt you as long as you don't make a sound. Solution? A) Mute assasin. B) Gag yourself. C) Realize that the old broad can't do a damn thing to you besides fly around like my grandmother on ecstasy as long as you don't scream.
How often do you really scream when you're frightened anyways? Most people just give out a real low "ooooooooh" , or just jump back too startled to say anything. To prove my point I stalked my girlfriend for 5 days and left her threatening notes written in blood. When she went to sleep I would hide under her bed and re-arrange some furniture then leave the window open. On the last day I cut the power to her house and hid in her closet. When she finally walked into her room I jumped out wearing a hollowed out pig's head and roared at her. She didn't even let out a peep, she just kind of fell into catatonic shock. My point? Dead Silence was dumb.
