I checked out Monster House at http://www.worstpreviews.com/review.php?id=43 and I think that... I hate motion capture. All animated features should be done with the talented eyes of animators. Motion capture always makes human characters look stiff, and out of place in a fantasy world. Take Shrek for example. Most of the non-main characters were done with motion capture, and the main characters were done using animation. If you compare the movements of the two, Shrek and Donkey look WAY better than the human characters. But that is not only because Shrek is a main character and the soldiers and other "extras" were not as important. Since motion capture films real people doing real performances, their movements seem out of place in an animated film. People do not move the way animators animate. Timeing, anticipation, exaggeration, follow through, and all of the other principles of animation are ignored in mocap. I saw Shrek and really liked it, but lost a lot of respect for it when I found that they used motion capture. I refused to see Polar Express, and I refuse to see this movie. I saw the trailer, and was pretty excited to see the movie, although something seemed off about the animation. After doing research my suspicions were acurate. This movie could have been great, but it will be just another average CG movie.

Get ready for a huge dissapointment, because it looks like there's a wave of these type of movies coming your way. Including Shrek 3 and 4. But check out the Ratatouille trailer and tell me that doesn't look great. Click Here for Trailer (http://www.worstpreviews.com/review.php?id=287)

You lost respect for Shrek after you found out that motion capture was used even though you did like it a lot at first after seeing it? That's the equivilant of saying "I hate fish. What's this delicious treat that I am eating? Oh... this is fish... then I don't like this treat anymore."

Also, if you keep refusing to give these movies a try, you don't really know what you're missing. If you liked the trailer for "Monster House" maybe you should check it out after all. A movie entirely done with motion capture may not have the same discrepancies as a movie done partially with motion capture and partially with animation. It will have its own unique world.

Having said that, I do get what you are saying about motion capture, but I will still probably check it out.

I have to disagree with this opinion. I took my son and his friend to see Monster House (3D version) and found the animation to be stunning and the plot of this movie was riveting. It was great entertainment!

I saw all the shrek movies. But back to the Monster House thing. I like some animated movies but Monster House was not one of them. It was not as good as I expected it to be.
