Wow, how could that movie win an Oscar? The characters are incredibly under-developed, the story is predictable and forced, and there is not a single character that you give a damn about. I get it, there is racism, but can they make it anymore In-Your-Face. Not to mention it seems that the whole town only has 10 people in it, because they are always running into each other. And the Thai people in the van... C'mon!
DO NOT RENT or BUY "Crash". Instead check out "Magnolia".

There were so many better choices for best picture. Not one of them even nominated. Hustle and Flow, Prize Winner of..., Squid and the Whale, Broken Flowers, hell even King Kong. Freakin' Narnia and Harry Potter were better in second, no, third viewings than Crash was in half of one.

It may not have been the best movie of the year, but I thought it was one of the best. The characters absolutely were developed and REAL, there was no good guys there was no bad guys, no one was spared from some moment of embarrasment. I could tell what all of the characters were thinking. It questioned all the little prejudiced thoughts one might have on a day to day basis. The coincidental storyline was definitely contrived, but it served as a dramatized framework for the point that the movie was trying to make. It goes beyond plot. I thought it was amazing.

How are the characters developed. We don't know anything about most of the characters. Jennifer Esposito's character was so useless, so was Brendan Fraser's. Nothing was happening with them, just forced drama. All the other characters are just meant to get in the way of each other, we don't have to know anything about them. Dillon's Dad's life was summarized in a quick rant, and that's it. I guess, we're supposed to now relate to the Dad character and Matt Dillon's. Ha ha, this movie is so simple, forced and poorly written. And if these movies keep winning Oscars over such films as Broken Flowers and other movies mentioned by brigulon 13, I will have to move to Canada.

No you're not supposed to relate to the Dad character, but perhaps to Dillon's character. I think it is pretty obvious the Dad character is not supposed to be developed. He's constantly in the background, obscured. Do you ever even see his face? It's like Dillon's secret. His dad is an embarrasing and frustrating situation for him to be dealing with. How is his character developed? How did you feel about Dillon's character after the first scene he was in? How did you feel about him when the movie is over? The film is all CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. The plot is a PRODUCT of their actions as people and not vice versa. Their behavior drives the entire story. That's not forced - that's natural. You were not meant to know everything about all the characters. I didn't know everything about them, but I FELT what they felt - whether they were victims or perpetrators of the injustice, I felt the pain or the anger.

This movie just felt like an episode of Law and Order: C.R.A.S.H. All this could have been a T.V. hit season finale-ish 2 parter. Haggis is a T.V. veteran. Sure Crash was okay but, Best Picture? Really hammy acting, predictable story and ending, been there done that story. I just felt like I've seen it before. And better. Hu$tle and Flow was a better story of stereotypes and struggle than Crash coulda been. Acting was way better. If Hoffman hadn't done such a good job imitating Capote I believe Howard would have won hands down for DJay. I know guys like him. And, some strange trivia: Both films were written and directed by white guys.

I don't know if I'd call it predictable. Did you really expect Ryan Phillipe's character to end up the way he did? I was never quite sure where it was going. I understand, not realistic. Believe me, I get what people are talking about when they complain about this film, I just disagree. I felt what the characters were going through so that's all that mattered. As far as best picture nominees, call me queer, but I liked Brokeback Mountain the most.

CRASH: For people who need their Morality Tales spoonfed to them.
Here's a hint, if you needed CRASH to tell you that racism is wrong or that there are people out there who are not going to be nice to you because of race, then you have a long sad road ahead of you in life.
CRASH was nothing more than a "conga line" of racial stereotypes and yes, UNDEVELOPED characters.
If a film wants to take on such a powder keg of an issue, it has a responsibility to do it with more care and intelligence (and a lot less contrivance).

Crash was incredible. It's one of the only movies of recent that hasn't had one of the following:
Gay man
Gay woman
Transgender whatever
Obscure painter nobody cares about
gay, obscure painter nobody cared about
dead singer
retard
gay retard
gay retarded painter
see the trend? Crash broke the stereotype of having a movie about controversial gay or retarded people in some indie film that absolutely nobody saw.
