Can somebody please explain to me why gory films are so popular. I know it's a matter of personal preference, and I'm not putting anybody down, here, but I just don't get it. I'm fine with violence in movies when it's part of the story, but not when it's so excessive and over the top that it doesn't really add to the story. Well, I suppose it would add to the story, if the story is about, say people getting their heads hacked off by a deranged lunatic! I don't know... I just feel negative and "yucky" when I watch explicitly violent movies. Anyone else agree with me?

lilo, I remember feeling really negative and "yucky" when I saw the last "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" movie. There was a scene where a guy was hanging from meathooks and Leatherface was rubbing acid or salt or something in his open wounds and it made me feel like that. I don't like movies that depict cruelty like that.

I know I love a good horror movie because of the suspense and scary tone of the story, but I also agree that the truly unnecessary gore does nothing for a film. I personally do not find the gore entertaining or scary.
