Most theaters don't like you bringing in your own treats, but we do it all the time. We stop at the drug store, buy bags of candies and then only get drinks and popcorn at the theater. I have a pair of pants with a zillion big pockets and I load 'em up. It works and it's a lot cheaper than forking over at the concession stand. Those prices are insane.

I've been known to take in a treat here or there, but not to that degree. Usually the things I take are things they don't sell, so I don't feel I'm cheating them out of any money.

I'm usually going with one or two kids, and everyone likes different stuff, so we each pick something out and smuggle it in, and then buy popcorn and drinks at the theater. It's highway robbery to pay $3 for a small box of whatever, when I can get twice as much for half the price.

I agree, the prices they charge for the amount you get IS highway robbery. I do have to admit, though, if you go to the movie on a Tuesday at the local theater, if you bring a bag, you can get up to 3 scoops of popcorn for free. :)

I've never really smuggled in goodies but I had an aunt that was a pro at this strategy. I don't think it's because I'm too honest or anything - I've just really never planned that far ahead :)

Well at least you're honest, fairykisses! I don't like admitting that I've done it, but I have. Of course, if they didn't charge an arm and a leg, I'm sure people wouldn't mind getting their snacks at the snack bar.

There really is no need to jack the prices as high as they do. Granted, there's overhead to running the theatre, but doubling or trebling the prices on candy is not going to encourage people to buy.

Interesting that I watched a program on the BBC the other day about this and there is no law stating that you cannot take your own food into the cinema, you can if you already have it on you, the only exception is that you can't take hot food into the cinema.

But it is awefully very difficult to make them understand this. They are very strict in such matters. We are allowed to take only drinks. Pity..

I do this, too. They already charge exorbitant prices for the tickets, so I don't feel too guilty about it. So, has anyone heard of someone getting caught? What happens? I think they should let people bring in their own snacks, anyways, as some people have allergies or food sensitivities and can't eat the theater snacks.:)

Where I can understand all your cost concearns when it comes to goodie smuggling, I myself cannot do it, I dont buy enough at the show as it is and I am more bothered to have to make an extra stop at someplace else for the snacks. However what really makes me angry is when other movie patrons smuggle in liquor. I feel this is very wrong and is not the proper place for drinking, if you feel the need for alcohol with a movie, please do us all a favor and stay home and off the roads.

We aren't allowed to take food or drinks into any of the theaters around my house, so I will usually sneak in a coupe candy bars or something. I just put them in my purse. I don't go all out, but I do feel like they charge us way more than it's worth for any type of snack.

I never use to sneak food in until last fall when the theater I go to raised their ticket prices. Afternoon shows use to be any show before 6pm and cost $6.75 now they changed that and now 4pm and later is considered evening tickets are $8.75. This all happened after the other theater in city limits closed .The next theater is 10 miles from my home .I generally don't eat much at theaters any way but now if I do want something I bring it in with me. I usually buy just a drink if anything at the concession stand.

I do it every time...if M&M's are under a buck somewhere, I'll stock up. One thing I woundn't recommend is canned drinks...when you pop the tabs it's usually during the quietest part of the movie (why does that happen?) Now that everybody is confessing their theater sins, I brought my popcorn maker with me but they didn't let me use their extention cord (too noisy I guess)
